This gem mine sits in the heart of Raleigh County, West Virginia and has a unique twist to how it all was formed. The mine offers guests the opportunity to find all kinds of different gemstones such as Sodalite, Ruby, Aquamarine, Fluorite, Sapphire, Garnet, Amazonite, Aventurine, Rodacrosite, Jet Tourmaline, Amethyst, Jade, Milky Quartz, Citrine, Cherokee Wishing Crystal and many more are being discovered at the mine every year. Also, there are gold on the property as well based on an old legend around the Civil War, where gold bags were shot out of cannons to avoid being taken over by the rebels.

Prices for Someplace Special Gem Mine:

Each bucket of gemstone ore costs $10 per bucket. You can get a special price if you buy 4 buckets for $35. Also, for family's that buy 5 gemstone buckets for $50 they get the 6th gemstone bucket for free. The gold and silver buckets are not part of any of the free bucket specials. Also, you can metal detect on the property for $20 per day and you may get lucky and find some gold and other treasures as well.

Operating Hours for Someplace Special Gem Mine:

In the fall, Someplace Special Gem Mine is open only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. The mine will close on October 17 and only be open by reservations after that date until November 1. After November 1, the gem mine will be closed until March 2011. However, if you have the gem mining itch you can call 304-575-9732 to order the gemstone ore throughout the winter months.

Someplace Special Gem Mine is very kid friendly and encourages schools and groups to come to their site. Also, the mines offer birthday parties for any child or adult, so if you're tired of a normal party you can hit the gem mine and find some precious stones or gold.

This gemstone mine offers a convenient activity for the whole family and is exciting about the possibility of finding a valuable stone or a piece of gold. Someplace Special Gem Mine has a person onsite on the weekends that can turn your gemstones into something very nice such as necklaces, earrings, pendants as well as other jewelry pieces. You will have to pay the gentleman at the mine to turn your gemstones into a piece of jewelry, but the costs are very reasonable.
