Review of the Southwest Indian Foundation Gift Catalog

Making Your Holiday Gift Count!

Sea Shepherd
What better way to spread the warmth of the holidays than to buy your Holiday gifts from a foundation that works to lessen the poverty and unemployment among the American Indians. The Southwest Indian Foundation has this goal for the American natives in the Southwest part of the United States, specifically members of the Navajo, Zuni, Hopi, Laguna,, Acoma, and Apache tribes. They are located in Gallup, New Mexico. Father Dunstan Schmidlin, a Franciscan priest had an urgency to do something for these people. He was deeply troubled by the quality of life for these forgotten Americans. In 1968, he established the foundation to help them in their plight.

I began to take a strong interest in the American Indian culture when I bought my home two years ago in Dahlonega, Georgia, where one of the saddest days in American History took place, the "Trail of Tears". From there, I learned more about the different organizations out there that benefited the Native Americans. The Southwest Indian Foundation strives to bring the pieces of the puzzle together by giving back dignity and self-reliance to these native people.

The Southwest Indian Foundation offers many wonderful gift items like apparel, jewelry, pottery, leather belts and purses as well as many other beautiful crafts. The best part is they are very reasonable with their prices. When you buy from them, you are making a difference in someone's life. Many people are not aware of how unfortunate some of these native people are. For instances, you're complaining about your heating bill? Well, 50% of Navajo homes burn wood as their main source of heat and many do not have safe wood burning stoves. You can even make donations for a family to have a new safe wood burning stove as well as other donations.

You can view their products and order online at www.southwestindian.com . However, I have noticed their website is very slow so I would call for a catalog at (505)-863-4037 and then order on the phone. They offer money back guarantee because their ultimate goal is to satisfy their customers.

I have ordered several items from them from a beautiful broom skirt to a Navajo man's watch and I have been very satisfied with the products and the workmanship.

Think about it. Every Holiday you go to the crowded sick-laden malls in a rush to get that perfect gift. Most times, we don't find it. And here, with the touch of your computer or telephone, you can spread more warmth to more families including your own by buying from this organization. We talk about how we see a lack of patriotism these days because of the results of the Iraq war. However, there is another type of patriotism in my opinion. Americans are the forgotten children of America. Show your Patriotism and love this Holiday by buying from the Southwest Indian Foundation or any American Indian foundation of your choice.

I think they sell their doner list or they are also the front for The Alabama State Trooper Foundation. Ever since donating to the Southwest Indian Foundation, I have been getting calls and mailings from the Alabama State Troopers association looking for donations to help poor disabled troopers. I think bothe Southwest Indian Foundation and the Alabama Troopers association are both scams.

I bought a liquid silver necklace and within two years it had turned copper color - clearly not 925 silver - or was silver plated...

Placed a Christmas order with SWIF. I have not seen anything, and it is Dec 23rd. I called and get this CUSTOMER SERVICE IS CLOSED FOR THE HOLIDAYS. I then looked at BBB - 43% of all donations goes to fund rasising - this is a scam.

The third time I tried to call back, after being left on hold for more than 10 minutes by the same rude man I spoke with the first time I called, I was told that the supervisor would have to call me back because she was on the phone with another customer.
Needless to say, I am not holding my breath for that call back. Also, I am seriously hoping there is no issue with the product I ordered, as I am anticipating a complete run around if I need to return it for any reason.
For this "foundation" being a charity, trying to raise money for it's cause, the customer service they provide is at am extremely low level. One would think they would do their best to provide at least a minimal level of customer service in order to retain customers to raise money. If this is indeed a legitimate charity, I do hope they don't waste any money sending me a catalog, as I will definitely be throwing it away.

I placed an online order with this company on 12/06/10. I received an order confirmation email, detailing what I ordered, on 12/07/10, but that email contained no shipping information, tracking information, nothing.
I sent an email to the email address indicated for customer service correspondence on 12/10/10, asking the status of my order, and never received a response.
This afternoon, on 12/13/10, I called the customer service phone number to ask about my order status. I finally got some tracking information. However, the man ( I won't say gentleman) I first spoke with was extremely rude, sarcastic had a terrible attitude, continually cut me off as I was trying to speak, and actually hung up on me. When I tried to call back and request to speak with a supervisor, I was hung up on again. The third time I tried to call back, after being left on hold for more than 10 minutes by the same rude man I spoke with the first time I called, I was told that the supervisor would have to ca

I am of a two tribe heritage with German mixed. As close as I can figure, I am just a little shy of being 1/2. I have been stopped at every juncture trying to find me. Mom would tell me nothing because we went through reprisals while living in Bozeman and she did as she grew up into adulthood in Harlowtown, Mt. Mom's side, from what an aunt shared shortly before death, if that is good memory on her part is that we are Oglala Sioux from the South Dakota regions - g.gram was off that reservation. Her mom was said to be a powerful Indian medicine woman; on the other side, my gram's name was Albert and they came out of Missouri and settled up around Great Falls initially as I understand it. My bio father was named for Ethridge, MT....that is all I have!

I ordered a t-shirt that didn't fit so I returned it (USPS insured) and have gotten nothing but a run-around. The USPS delivered the shirt back to SWIF on Dec 19 -- I have sent proof of delivery and yet am not getting my refund. Be extra careful when ordering -- Maybe this place is just unorganized but it seems like a good excuse to keep my money...I will never order from SWIF again -- and will tell anyone who asks that they are not reliable.

I have always had good luck with ordering things from the SWIF catalogue... I love everything that I have purchased!
