Guests are encouraged to arrive at least a half hour prior to appointment time to enjoy this pre-session unwind. After the heat experience, guests are taken to a perfectly decorated waiting area to enjoy fresh fruit, berries and cool water with slices of citrus. A spa therapist soon appears to escort customer to a clean, spacious room where the session takes place.

My therapist, Belka, was prepared to explain the significance of every spa practice and amenity you could imagine. From the gold leaf ceiling (yes, with traces of real gold) to the bamboo wood flooring and rice walls - even the motion of each massage stroke towards the heart to increase blood circulation - was patiently explained to me. Belka was also sure to ask the one question that spa connoisseurs always welcome..."Is the pressure okay?" And the pressure - like the overall Mandarin Oriental Spa experience - was picture perfect.
