I recently visited Spa Shawnee to see what they had to offer and I was pleasantly surprised at a few key points. One is that all of their products are natural and many are organic. That means something to me. I do not like the use of harsh chemicals being used on or around me or my family. The other thing that stood out was their friendly and knowledgeable staff. They all share the same natural philosophy as I do. One other important point was the prices. They are very affordable for top of the line spa treatments.
On my visit to the spa, I had the signature Aroma Hydro Therapy performed. I was a little scared at first of the hydro capsule as I am a little claustrophobic. I must say that once into the treatment, the fear dissipated easily. The therapist helped to ease the fear as well by explaining each procedure in full. Her kind aura was very apparent as well.
When you check into the spa, they give you a locker for you to keep your stuff. In your locker, you will find a comfy robe and slippers. Once you get changed, it is time to sit in their Golden Room and enjoy some complimentary teas, water and trail mix while you wait for your treatment room to be prepared. Then your therapist comes to bring you to your treatment room.
Once in the room, it is time to get onto the table. The therapist first coats your skin with a honey and sugar exfoliation. Then it is time to close the capsule. The steam is first put on for about 20 minutes. While you sit in the steam breathing it in, the therapist gives you a scalp and neck massage to further relax you. I am not an easy one to get to that relaxation place but I do think that I got there at least for a little while.
About half way through your treatment, it is time to put on the showers. Three different jets shoot water on your body to help wash off the honey and sugar mixture. The warmth is almost enough to send you away to a more relaxing place. A shoulder massage is done around this point. These massages help to loosen up any tension and help to relieve toxins from you body as well.
The purpose of the hydro therapy treatment is to open pores, release toxins that are held in your body, exfoliate the skin and help aid in relaxation. The massages that are done during this treatment are also to help that along. The steam helps to open pores and helps the essential oils to be absorbed into your nervous system.
The hydro therapy treatment is 45 minutes long and has many benefits. The spa also has many other treatments to choose from such as their signature Sen Fusion massage which has effects that are very similar to the ones that acupuncture offers. They also offer stone massages, golfer's massages, body wraps, facials, manicure and pedicures and salon services.
Right now, their salon offer hair cuts, waxing and makeup applications but are hoping to add natural perms and hair coloring to their list of services in the next year. They also sell natural shampoos and conditioners as well as formaldehyde free nail polish. For those that desire natural cosmetics, the spa carries the Jane Iredale collection of makeup and skin care products.
They use natural products to benefit not only the client's health but to also benefit the therapist's health. When a therapist is around the harsh chemicals that many spas use all day long, it has long term negative affects on the body. The environment is also a benefiting factor here as well.
My time at the spa was very relaxing and peaceful. The ambiance says it all. This is a place where you want to go to get away from your hectic life and try to find yourself deep within. I have trouble relaxing. With four kids, a job, being a college student and a wife, I am sure many of you can relate to my trouble relaxing. I found out what it takes for me to really let go and relax thanks to spa staff. It takes a while to find your relaxing place but it does happen eventually.
I highly recommend the Shawnee Spa for anyone in the area, residents and guests alike, that need to get away and find some inner peace. You do not need to be a guest of the resort to enjoy all that the spa has to offer. The staff can even recommend what treatment would be your best bet. Let the spa take you back to nature and find your inner peace.
