I tried two nail salons by my new house. One nail salon was old and depressing. The lady cut my cuticle too short and I bled. It took almost a month for my finger to heal. Another thing I didn't like was that they didn't accept charge cards, you had to pay cash. I never heard of a nail salon not accepting all major credit cards. That should have been a red flag right there.
The second nail salon I tried by my new house was just as bad as the first one. I needed to get my eyebrows waxed, yes I just typed that, and instead of bringing me into a clean, sterilized waxing room, they made me sit in a chair out in the open and did it right there. I had to sit up instead of being comfortable lying down. Getting waxed is painful enough, I didn't need the whole nail salon watching.
The third nail salon I tried was just right. I had to drive a little further away from my town but it was worth it. The nail salon was brand new. Since I was one of their first customers, I received a free box filled with a nail clipper, nail file, nail buffer, and whatever else came in it. Usually the box will cost you $5. I have my very own set of sterile equipment which is great. I don't have to worry about my supplies being used on someone else. You just tell them your birth date, (month and day, not year) first name and they pull it out for you.
This nail salon is called Sparkling Nails and it is located on Montauk Highway in Mastic, New York. It is located in a shopping center so there is plenty of parking. There is a Dunkin Donuts located in the same shopping center so I like to get a hot chocolate while I am having my nails done. The salon itself is extremely clean. When the owner isn't doing a customer's nails, she is being sweeping and dusting. It was great to see that. The atmosphere is very welcoming. As soon as you walk in the door you are greeted with a huge smile and a hello. I have never waited more than 5 minutes to get my nails done.
So far I have had manicures, pedicures, and waxing done and I have been totally satisfied. They are a full service nail salon and even offer massages. When you are done getting your nails done, they sit you under the nail dryer and give you a complimentary massage. It feels great. You can spray the quick dry and a quick coat of oil to prevent your nails from chipping when you leave.
During the week, they offer manicure and pedicure specials. They will even throw in a free pair of flip flops. I already have two free pairs from them. The cost of a regular manicure is $10. You can get a manicure and a pedicure for $22. You don't even need to call and ahead and make an appointment. You can just walk right in, which I love. The owner's name is Lisa and she is so sweet. My favorite nail technician is Yuki. The three top nail techs are the owner Lisa, Yuki, and Andy. If you can, try to request one of them. The other techs are good too, but these three are the fastest and I am always in a rush.
If you are looking for a great nail salon and you live near the Mastic, New York area, I would definitely suggest you try Sparkling Nails Salon. I have been a repeat customer since last year. Another thing that is great is that when you get 10 manicures, your 11th manicure is free! Who can resist a free manicure, I know I can't.

Post a CommentAs an update to this article that I wrote....as of 2 months ago this salon has a new owner. I am not as impressed as I was at the time I wrote this article. The atmosphere has totally changed. I would delete this article if I could. I hope the new owner turns things around soon back to the way it was.
