1. Storyline - B
The storyline flowed nicely as a good extension of the first 2 movies. As I said before it was a long movie but I still felt like I didn't want it to end. I could have used a bathroom break but I was left wanting more. Which is not always a bad thing, especially if we get Spiderman 4!!!
2. Casting - A
The characters in previous movies did not change which is a wonderful thing since the casting has been awesome since day 1 of this trilogy. I could however nitpick about Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane. She just doesn't really knock me out. Mary Jane in the comics was always drawn as a megawatt beauty and she knew it. Kirsten is not quite there looks wise, but she does do a good job of pulling off the attitude of Mary Jane so I guess I can't complain too much. The new characters Eddie Brock/Venom, Flint Marko/Sandman, and Gwen Stacy were home runs in my opinion. I have always felt as a long time Spidey comic reader that Peter should have gotten with Gwen Stacy rather than MJ. More on this later
3. Cool Special Effects - B
As with the first 2 movies this one does not disappoint in this department. The transformation of Marko to Sandman was jaw dropping and tI feel the highlight of the movie. The scene with Peter shedding the black suit and it consequently finding the desolate Eddie Brock was quite enjoyable as well. This movie was not as effect heavy as the first 2. We had more interaction between the characters with focus on the human drama. I did however like the new web ball edition to Spidey's arsenal. Nice touch as he has used these in the comics for a long time.
4. Fight Scenes -C
The only really outstanding fight scene is the end with Spidey,Venom, and the New Goblin. But oh man what a scene it was!! They certainly saved the best for last. Up til then most of the fighting was between Peter,MJ, and Harry.
5. Hot Chicks In Peril - C
The only real disappointment for me was the lack of the girl in trouble. There was only one real scene with Spidey saving Gwen Stacy. It was probably the 2nd best scene in the movie next to the ending. There were not as many scenes with Spidey saving MJ. She spends most of the movie pouting and being jealous. Like I said before I have always wanted Peter to be with Gwen. I have never really liked MJ too much and this movie did nothing to change my mind about that. Come on Peter wake up Gwen is smokin hot and much better for you. Oh to have that choice...sigh. Peter Parker you are one lucky man.
6. Comic Relief - A
There was plenty of laughs to be had which is good. You can't very well have 3 hours of high drama and fight scenes. J. Jonah Jameson is a riot as usual. Great casting and acting with his character. The scenes with Peter embracing his new attitude and trying to be Mr. Cool were quite humorous. Good job however of not over doing it. It was the perfect mix of laughs, action, and drama.
Overall Rating - B
I liked this movie very much. This is a movie that is rare in that it lived up to the hype. All 3 movies have delivered and are without question the best comic book movies ever made. I did like 2 better but 3 is not far behind. I would rate the trilogy in this order....2,3,1. The difference between them is minimal and I could watch them all over and over again. I waited for many years for a movie about my favorite comic book character. These movies were well worth the wait. Let's just hope everyone gets on board for another because I for one can't get enough.
