Review of Sprecher Brewery Tour in Milwaukee

Becky D
A visit to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, also known as The Brew City, is not complete without a tour of at least one of the local breweries. A recent trip to visit family there allowed me to explore many of the brewery tours that Milwaukee has to offer. Sprecher Brewery in Glendale gave an informative tour with some tasty samples at the end. The tour lasts for about 30 minutes and then you will spend about 45 minutes in their beer garden tasting samples.

Tours are offered on Fridays at 4PM, Saturdays at 1, 2, and 3PM, and Sundays at 12, 1, and 2PM. They are also available at 4PM on Monday through Friday during the summer. Reservations are required for these tours because they can only take 70 people at a time. Call 414-964-2739 to make reservations. Our tour was on a Friday afternoon and completely sold out. The cost for the tour is $4 per person, $3 for seniors, or $2 for people under the age of 21. For your money, you will receive a tour, four pours of beer, unlimited soda from their seven varieties, and a souvenir tasting glass. The four pours are eight ounces each and we got to choose from the list of the 10 beers that were currently available. The soda is definitely worth checking out as well because their root beer was rated #1 by the NY Times.

Reserve tastings are also available where for $15 you get 10 pours of premier and limited edition beer along with some cheese, and a tasting glass you can take home.

The tour takes you through the brew house so you can see how Sprecher makes their beer according to old traditions. You will also get to see the aging cellar, bottling plant, and warehouse, which I have noticed is not common to see on brewery tours. The tour makes three stops where your tour guide will explain the history of the company and how they make their beer and soda. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and able to answer visitor questions intelligently. He also kept things fun by making jokes throughout the tour.

If you are interested in purchasing some of their beverages to take home, doing so right at the brewery is a great idea. The prices are very cheap there because it is bottled on site and if you take the tour you will receive a 20% off coupon.
