Review: Stouffer’s Signature Classics Fish Fillet Dinner

A few days ago, my wife and I were out shopping and came across some frozen dinners from Stouffer's that were on sale. Since we knew there would be several times during the week when frozen dinners would come in handy, we ended up picking up a couple of them; including their Signature Classics Fish Fillet Dinner.

To be honest with you, I wasn't really enthused about this particular purchase at the time because I've had fish in frozen dinners like this in the past and am almost always disappointed. And, even though I have found some dinners from the Stouffer's brand I do like, the ones that aren't as good seem to outnumber those.

However, a couple days ago, I was looking for something for lunch and, since I didn't see anything else (that wouldn't take a long time to make), I ended up trying this dinner. I have to admit, I was impressed.

I'm going to start out saying the fish in this dinner isn't something you'll mistake for one of the better brands of frozen fish. It was a little on the greasy side and, compared to some other frozen fillets (like the ones from Gorton's) did lack a little imagination.

The one thing that did impress me about this fish though is it turned out much better than I was expecting. Unlike the fish in some other frozen dinners, it didn't come out tasting dry or, because it was made in the microwave (rather than the oven), it wasn't soggy. Basically, even though it wasn't the best fish I have ever eaten, it was definitely better than what I've gotten from frozen dinners in the past.

I was also surprised by how much I liked the macaroni and cheese that came with this dinner. Again, that's something I've had in other frozen meals before and it doesn't always come out as well as I would prefer. However, this time around, the macaroni and cheese was more than acceptable.

As far as lunch goes, I was a bit concerned it wouldn't be enough for me because it looked a bit small in size. But, it did provide a filling meal and that stayed with me all afternoon so, once again, I was both surprised and impressed.

This is a dinner I would definitely consider buying again and do recommend if you are looking for something that is easy to make for lunch or dinner.
