I purchased a cell phone through Straight Talk in February in East Texas. At first, I will be honest, I was very skeptical because I had been with my local wireless company for many years and I have always received great service with them. I decided to switch because with the current cell phone company I was not able to text pictures or access internet. Although with Straight Talk, you can access the internet, your access is very limited. For me, it serves my purposes just fine. I usually just look at Facebook and email so that works fine for me. Occasionally I will get on Google to do a search and that can be time consuming. Some sites you can't access and others you can. By all accounts, you are not getting a smart phone. Just a phone that you can do minimal internet activity. If you are wanting a smart phone with all the bells and whistles then perhaps Straight Talk is not for you.
Cost wise Straight Talk is very affordable. I only pay $45 or $30 a month. Depending on which service card I buy. You also have the option to reserve service cards so you don't have to keep buying one every month. You can also get on their automatic plan where it automatically bills you each month and refills your service. You can also keep your current phone number when you switch to Straight Talk.
When I first got my Straight Talk phone it didn't work. I had to return my first one and get a new one, which did work much better. Also right at first it dropped a lot of calls and didn't seem to get good service. This had me really concerned because my old company could not port my same number and I really didn't want a new one. Not sure what happened but over time I have started to get greater reception. Use to at my work I was not able to receive any calls. I could talk for a minute and then the call would be dropped. Now I can receive calls just fine and talk for a long time without ever having the call dropped.
The Straight Talk phone I have is the R355C. I believe it works off of Verizon towers. With this phone I can take pictures and I must say it does take pretty good pictures! I am able to email them to my email and then download them onto my computer. I really enjoy this! I am also able to receive picture messages now where with my prior service I wasn't able too.
For the money you spend Straight Talk is a pretty good deal. If all you do is check your Facebook account or email and don't care about games and such then Straight Talk might be for you. If you are more into the iPhone or Droid then AT&T and Verizon is what you need.
