Review: Sun Chips

When you think of the word "chip" healthy isn't a related term that pops into mind. Sun Chips are one of few snacks that are actually not bad for your figure. The Frito Lay company also supports the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Any company that makes a quality product and supports charities is a plus in my book!

Sun Chips are made with whole grains, corn and sunflower oil, cheese, and some spices. There are four flavors of Original, Harvest Cheddar, Garden Salsa, and French Onion. My personal favorite is the Original which taste like a wheat cracker featuring a little salt. I also enjoy the Garden Salsa flavor which is similar to Doritos.

The whole wheat chips contain 30 percent less fat than regular potato chips. No transfats and only 6 grams per 15 chips is pretty good. Only 19 carbohydrates per serving, since the chips are made with quality ingredients. Diets that are rich in whole grains and plant foods help reduce the risk of heart disease.

Sun Chips are the only snack I'll eat that's not considered organic. I usually stay away from packaged foods, but I can't resist sneaking down the chip aisle to grab a bag of whole grain goodness! You can eat them and not feel guilty like you would a tub of ice cream or bag of salty potato brand chips.

Their website is nice and fun. Features include coupons for a bag of Sun Chips, health information, environment information, and ways to volunteer. Sun Chips not only are trying to better our health but also better the environment and community.

I recommend Sun Chips because the are not aggressively salty. People who refrain from meat have sensitive taste buds to spices. Those who do eat meat can benefit from getting their grains and veggies in a fun way! Containing only 2 grams of sugar per serving, these chips are safe for children too. All ages and dietary practices will love this product!

Knowledge is power and who said it can't be delicious? There are over 100 healthy snacks on SmartSpot.com and Sun Chips are on that list. "Waves of sun-toasted taste with all of the goodness of multigrain, Sun Chips are a perfect snack," states the Sun Chip bag.

Frito Lay company makes Sun Chips in Plano, Texas. They guarantee freshness of their product and offer a phone number to call if you aren't satisfied. I have been eating Sun Chips since I was a child, and have never had any problems with the quality or price. The price for a bag of chips is usually about $2 or $3.
