Review of Sundown Perfect Iron

Many people require iron supplements. What you may not realize is that there are many different types of iron found in iron supplements, including ferrous sulfate, ferrous fumerate, ferrous gluconate and carbonyl iron. These different types of iron are not identical. Some types are absorbed better than others and some commonly cause constipation, while others do not.

Most types of iron require a fair amount of stomach acid for absorption, making them poor choices for people that have had bariatric surgery, older people, people that use antacids regularly and others than have reduced amounts of stomach acid for any reason. Carbonyl iron, however, does not require much stomach acid for absorption.

In addition, most types of iron cause constipation in many people. That's because they contain a lot of iron salts as well as elemental iron. For instance, a 325 mg tablet of ferrous sulfate only contains 65 mg elemental iron. The rest of the stuff in that tablet is iron salts, and that's what causes constipation. Carbonyl iron is all elemental iron, with no iron salts to constipate you or upset your stomach. In talking to many, many people that take iron supplements, only one mentioned becoming constipated from carbonyl iron, and she felt that was because she takes a very high dose.

My favorite iron supplement is Sundown Perfect Iron. Sundown Perfect Iron tablets contain 25 mg of carbonyl iron per tablet. The pills are tiny and easy to swallow. At one point I was diagnosed with an iron deficiency and after a couple months of two Sundown Perfect Iron supplements daily, my iron level was good again. This supplement has never upset my stomach or caused me to become constipated, either.

I purchase my Sundown Perfect Iron online and find it quite reasonably priced. I do take it along with vitamin C to enhance absorption; any generic brand of vitamin C works fine. I buy whatever brand is on sale at the moment. You need about 200 mg of vitamin C for each 25 mg tablet of Sundown Perfect Iron you take. While some brands of iron supplements contain vitamin C along with iron, most do not contain enough vitamin C to actually aid in the absorption of the iron so I don't mind having to purchase my vitamin C separately.
