Review of SunSilk Anti-Poof Hair Care Products

Shampoo, Conditioner and 24/7 Creme to Tame Your Hair

Patricia N. Hicks
Women with naturally curly or wavy hair are so lucky! Everyone says so...except the poor souls who have the naturally curly or wavy hair. I am one of those unfortunate people. I hate my hair. I hate my hair because I am a woman and all women hate their hair. But, I have hair that is very thick and very curly so I hate my hair twice as much. I've had different cuts, had different lengths, used different stylists and I always wound up just going out in a ponytail or a bun (both of which wound up frizzy). I have tried for years to find a product that would help this hair. I have tried cheap brands, expensive brands, in-between brands, mousse, gel, hot oil treatments, hair spray, spray gel, spray conditioner, serums...you name it, and I've tried it. I have a pile of partially used bottles in my bathroom of so many different products that don't work on my hair. I've begun to wonder if they can be sold on eBay.

One day, as I was browsing through the hair care aisle, I came across a product I hadn't noticed before. I read, "Hair that gets poofy as it dries?" Yes, my hair always gets poofy. I picked up the bottle and read the back, "Hair expanding into a pyramid?" Oh my yes, that was definately my hair. It was SunSilk brand Anti-Poof formula in Shampoo, Conditioner and a 24/7 Crème. Each contained jojoba oil to help keep hair from "rising up and out". I had previously tried the SunSilk Anti-Frizz formula, and it helped a little, but I still wasn't satisfied with it and the container wound up in the discarded collection. Of course, since I am always on a quest to find the perfect product for my hair, I bought the Anti-Poof formula products - one of each kind. They were $2.97 each but then each container had a $1 off coupon attached to it.

The first time I tried the Anti-Poof products, I chose not to use the 24/7 Crème so I could see how well the other products did keeping the "poof" down. The shampoo and conditioner worked as well as one would expect for shampoo and conditioner. The lather was nice and, although it was not as fabulous as Herbal Essences products, the SunSilk scent was pleasing. My hair was very soft after washing and drying it. However, I didn't notice a reduction in the amount of "poof" my hair had. I did, in fact, still look like I had a lion mane and was thankful I was off of work that day with no other plans that would take me out of the house. I just put imy hair up in a familiar ponytail and went about my business.

The following day, I shampooed and conditioned my hair as usual with the Anti-Poof formula and towel dried my hair. While my hair was still damp, I squeezed out about a quarter sized dollop of the 24/7 Crème into my palm and was easily able to apply it evenly to my hair from the roots to the tips. This was still more than the nickel-sized suggested usage, but, once again, I have a lot of hair. The 24/7 Crème was not sticky or greasy feeling. It felt like a nice lotion. I then scrunched my hair all over to help "lock" the curls and then allowed it to air-dry (I've never had good results from blow-drying my hair). You can use your normal hair care products on top of the 24/7 Crème, but I did not.

I had to go to work that day so I took along a clip to tie back my hair "just in case". The results? Wow! My hair looked great! I got compliments on it left and right from clients. My hair had defined curls. It was soft. It was bouncy. It didn't have that crispy feeling or obvious residue I've gotten from using other products. I found myself tossing my hair back all day long. My hands were constantly stroking it, amazed by the softness.

The next time I went to the store, I bought about 4 bottles of the 24/7 Crème. As it turns out, they all had $1 off coupons on them. I found out SunSilk was changing the packaging so that would explain the coupons being plentiful. If you'd like to try out the Anti-Poof formula or find out if Sunsilk has a formula for your type of hair, you don't have to rush out to the nearest store and buy it. You can get free samples of your choice of SunSilk formulas at their website, www.gethairapy.com. Along with your samples, you'll receive $2 in gift cards towards more "Hairapy". This fun and interactive site has a quick quiz to determine the formula you need to use as well as F.A.Q.'s and instructions for each type of formula.

I have been using the SunSilk Anti-Poof products for about a month now and am still pleased with the results. I have used the 24/7 Crème with many combinations of shampoos and conditioners (I am trying to whittle down my collection in the bathroom cabinet). The results have always been pretty much the same. These days, more often than not, I am wearing my hair down, I'm still receiving compliments, and I am just about to the point where I can say I love my hair. But then, I AM a woman and women always hate their hair. So I'll just say I love SunSilk's Anti-Poof 24/7 Crème.

I completely agree - the anti-poof is the only product I have ever used that made my hair stop poofing like crazy, and I have tried just about everything. I too could wear my hair down and it wasn't frizzy or poofing, just perfect. Must find more of this stuff!

My hair gets frizzy as it dries too. I find that covering hair with a scarf after a shower until it dries prevents it from getting poofy.

How wierd! I've been using it for at least 1 1/2 years now and haven't had that problem. I hope you recover!

FYI I bought the Sunsilk Anti-Poof Conditioner and Creme at a discount store, and liked it at first, but then i noticed my hair started falling out - like CRAZY...i used it a few more times before I realized it might be the product that was causing this problem. I noticed it also gave off a chemical perm scent and wondered if the ingredients contained some kind of hair relaxer?
I have superfine curly hair that gets easily tangled and poofy so I thought that this product was going to be great - I have three extra backup bottles but am afraid to use this stuff anymore. I guess Ill put it on ebay, too.

I have the same problem. But luckily I just discovered ebay has truckloads available.

Ugh!! I experienced the same thing!!! They DID discontinue the cream. That was the ONLY thing that has EVER worked on my hair. What can be done?? I am miserable. I found some bottles at a cheap store too, but ran out a few days ago. That stuff literally changed my life. I wore my beautiful hair down every day...and now...it's buns for me :-(

FYI - I have never had good results with the John Frieda products. My hair winds up feeling stiff or sticky. Or, it just keeps poofing!

I found out a while ago that SunSilk has discontinued the anti-poof line. Imagine my horror - teeth grinding, hair pulling, practically sobbing! I emailed the company explaining my dilemma - and that of countless other poofy haired people. I got an "I'm sorry...discontinued...will forward to development team..." response.

Then, I was looking for some great bargains one day at a clearance store called Big Lots (I think it's called Odd Lots up North) an I came across the largest collection of the SunSilk Anti-Poof products that I have seen! The 24/7 creme was $2.50 a bottle and I bought 10 bottles. Worried that I'd never see this product again prompted me to find another Big Lots store and buy up another 15 bottles. Get 'em while you can because I'm trying to find as much of this stuff as possible before it's gone for good! :)

Oh man I have the smae problem. Every time I get my hair cut the stylist says how a lot of people pay the big bucks to get wavy hair. I think I'd give up a few years of my life to get rid of it! My hair also gets very poofy when it drys, even air drying it. I always end up having to put it in a ponytail or in a bun...and just like you said, it STILL gets poofy/frizzy. I'm about to go get all three of those products and the John Frieda anti-frizz stuff. Hopefully I have results like yours!
