We do have the weekends in town and we would camp out at the campgrounds were my Dad and his wife are campground host and hostess. Wanting a night away from the camping we got us a room at the Super 8 Motel in Poplar Bluff, Mo. We are from Poplar Bluff so we know the town and such but had never had reason to stay at the Super 8 Motel before. Well after that one night we will never be doing that again.
Prior to paying the $63 that the room cost, Ken had inquired about whether they offered internet or not. The laptop to our knowledge was not set up for wireless internet at that point. So Ken knew to ask if the room was hardwired for cable internet via an Ethernet cable. The lady behind the desk said that they offered both wireless and cable internet.
We had Ken's son with us so we needed a room with two beds in it. The room we were given had two full size beds and both looked and felt comfortable enough when we sat on them. The room came with cable television and this is probably what got the woman confused. The internet was wireless only and prior to two days ago I had never used wireless internet before, so that night I was a little dumb on the subject. Dial-up and cable internet I know but wireless I was out in left field. I looked all around and did not see any way to hook up to cable internet with my Ethernet cord.
I went up to the front desk and asked the woman about this thinking that I overlooked it some how. The woman behind the counter told me that there was a piece of paper in the room that would explain to me how to get onto the internet. With this said she went back to what she was doing and I was on my way back to the room knowing that when I got there I would know how to get on the internet at this motel. Well needless to say the paper was not in the room anywhere.
Back up to the front desk I go to see if she has another one so that I can have on in the room to get on the internet with. At this point the woman became very rude to me, telling me that she does not have another one of those papers and that I really don't need instructions on how to get online. I was told all I needed to do was open the laptop and hit the internet explorer button and I should be online. I told her that I did not have a wireless card and that is why we had inquired about the hard wired cable internet. I reminded her that she said that they offered the cable internet when we checked in. She told me that yes they did but that we did not ask if one of those rooms was available. At this point I am upset that she would say this. I mean after all we asked if they had that type of internet so that should have told her we wanted one of those rooms. I politely asked her if she had one of those rooms and if we could transfer rooms. She hatefully told me no and then went back to reading her book.
I was crying by time I got back to the room. I was angry and humiliated at the way that she spoke to me. Other guests were within earshot of this encounter. I told Ken what had happened and he wanted to change hotels because of the way that she spoke to me. I called around and found out that all of the decent hotels and motels in town were full. So we had to stay there. So we decided to order dinner in with pizza from Godfather's Pizza. Godfather's Pizza is one of the best pizza places in our town. The pizzas are always fully cooked and hot when they arrive. They usually have the pizzas to you in around 45 minutes from the time you call in your order. This is another area where the desk attendant at Super 8 really ticked us off.
After waiting for over an hour for our pizzas to arrive, I called Godfather's Pizza back and inquired about our order. I was told that the delivery guy should have already been there with the pizzas. The manager at Godfather's Pizza told me that they always have trouble when delivering pizza at the Super 8 motel and that possibly the delivery guy was up front trying to get past the front desk. When I got off the phone I put my shoes on and was going to walk up front to see if he was there. I got to the door when the phone rang. It was the lady at the front desk calling to inform me that she was not going to ring our room because of the late hour but there was a delivery guy there and she wanted to know if we ordered pizza. She wasn't going to ring our room? And apparently she was not going to let our dinner back either. I told her that we did and to send the guy back to our room.
When the delivery guy got back there he apologized for our pizza being late. He informed me that he had been up front for over 15 minutes trying to find out where our room was. He said that the lady upfront refused to tell him where the room was as she did not know if we had order the pizza or not. When he tried to get her to ring our room to confirm, she was refusing to do that also telling him it was to late an hour to disturb guests. According to the delivery guy he had to argue with her for over 15 minutes to get her to ring our room.
We were back in our room wondering where our dinner was. Not only were we hungry and tired but we had Ken's little boy that we needed to get fed and then but down in bed for sleep. We could have had our food in a timely manner if only the woman at the front desk had done her job. After that experience we both decided that we will pay a little more to stay some where else. If Super 8 there in Poplar Bluff is the only place that has a vacancy, then we will sleep in Ken's truck before ever staying there again.

Post a CommentI stayed at the Poplar Bluff Super 8 at around the same time and did not have a problem with the internet or service. There was breakfast in the morning and it was a nice room. I will be staying there again next week, I'll see if there are any changes!
Sorry about your experience. I've had a few here in MO myself - I can't remember which chain though, but similar class. One I stayed at during the ice storm 5 or so years ago looked like someone took a machine gun to the curtains. LOL
What an awful place. Thanks for the warning.
I have had great service at other super 8 motels in the past, that is why I limited my negative review to the super 8 motel in poplar bluff mo and did not write it on the whole super 8 chain.
Sorry you had such a bad experience, I guess it depends on who owns the hotel and who the staff is. I have stayed in Super 8's in Los Angeles and they all have been great.
