For people who may not wish to take psyllium fiber supplements for whatever reason, there is a natural alternative. This product is Garden of Life Super Seed Beyond Fiber. It is a psyllium-free fiber made from flax. It is also described as a Whole Food dietary Supplement on the container. This product can be purchased from a natural food or vitamin store such as Vitamin Cottage. The cost was very reasonable at about $14 for 600 grams container which provides 30 servings. A serving size is described as 1 Scoop (the scoop is included), about 20 grams. It may be advisable to begin with one-quarter scoop per day to assess its effectiveness.
On the container, Super Seed is described as a whole food blend of seeds, sprouted grains and legumes and is vegetarian. It provides both soluble and insoluble fiber. The product claims to contain ingredients which support regular bowel function and flora balance in the gastrointestinal tract. Two servings of Super Seed is equal to 50% of the Daily Value for fiber.
Some of the sprouts contained in Super Seed are flax, sunflower, chia, sesame and pumpkin seeds, adzuki beans, millet, quinoa, garbanzo beans, buckwheat, amaranth, red lentils and kidney beans. Super Seed also contains a proprietary probiotic blend and 7 grams of total dietary fiber per serving. It contains less than 1 gram of sugar and a little bit of vitamin C, 7 grams of protein, calcium, iron and Omega 3 Fatty Acids (Alpha linolenic acid).
Super Seed is a powdered mix which can be mixed with any food or beverage such as smoothies, fruit or vegetable juice, cereal or yogurt. This is great for those who are unable to safely swallow fiber pills. It tastes great mixed with soy milk. The container is a sturdy plastic jug with screw-on lid and includes a plastic scoop.
Super Seed is an effective and pleasant tasting dietary fiber supplement. Of course, you may want to consult with your medical provider if you have any questions as to whether this would be a good product to include in your personal diet.
