It would be two weeks after we were approved before we could go up and meet with Glenn and get a bike. Glenn told me that two weeks was no problem and if I had any questions between now and then to feel free to call. As it would turn out I would end up making two calls between that time. Both calls were handled very professionally and Glenn was always very pleasant to speak with.
The day we arrived at Surdyke Harley Davidson in Festus, Missouri, we were introduced to Glenn who listened to what my husband had wanted as far as a motorcycle went and informed us that he knew they had a couple used Heritage motorcycles but did not have any brand new ones on the show room floor. Another guy was introduced to us and he informed us that they did have two brand new ones at the warehouse that would have to be put together. I told them that this would not work since my husband wanted a bike that day. To our surprise we were informed that they could have the bike ready in about an hour. Great we will take one then. We were then shown the color choices and allowed to pick one.
We were asked what kind of monthly payment plan we wanted and we then gave them our maximum monthly amount we wanted to pay. I told them that with having to purchase insurance for the motorcycle I had to keep things in a certain price range on monthly payments. Glenn informed us that Harley Davidson offered insurance that we could finance with the purchase of the bike. Great now we only have one payment to make.
While Glenn and a few other people were working on the paperwork part of buying the bike we were taken to a girl who showed us all the clothing, helmets and collectibles that they offered there at Surdyke. My husband and I were both fitted for helmets and then decided not to purchase anything else. The helmet would be financed right in with the bike so we did not have to worry about having that kind of money on us that day. From there we were taken to parts and my husband and I were introduced to another man who would show us all the custom stuff we could put on the bike.
Let me tell you that through all of this none of these people came across as pushy sales people. They were friendly and showed us what was available in their department and that was it. Other than just treating us like we were kings and queens during this whole time, they just explained what was there and if we said no that was it. I loved how everyone there was handling themselves. We did have other people that we had to meet and deal with throughout our day there purchasing the motorcycle.
When the paperwork was ready we had to meet with Lee who would walk us through some of the packages that Harley Davidson would offer. Things like maintaince plans, gap insurance, credit life and such. He put all the things that they offered into the financing and then showed us what our payments would be each month with all of it, some of it and then with just a few of the extras. We went of course with what fit into our monthly budget and Lee was fine with rerunning the numbers for us. We did not have the full down payment for the type of motorcycle that my husband had chosen and Lee worked things around so we could put part of the down payment into the financing. So still here we are feeling like kings and queens by these people.
My father showed up while we were there waiting on the paperwork to be finished, and at that moment I seen first hand how great the people at Surdyke Harley Davidson really were. He had purchased his bike from Glenn back in April. When he walked through the door that day to see us, he was greeted by the staff there by name. No one rushed at him like a target to sell something to. The people there just acted like he was one of their friend's coming for a visit.
After all the paperwork was done and we were the proud owners of a 2007 Harley Davidson Heritage Classic, we were introduced over the speaker and welcomed to the Harley Davidson Family. My husband rang the "Freedom Bell" and then everyone in there was clapping and sounding horns on the motorcycles in the showroom. Everyone there at Surdyke Harley Davidson made us feel like we were a part of a family. Words can hardly describe the feelings that were felt at that moment.
Gunny was introduced to us and we were informed he would walk us through how to operate the bike. Gunny worked with my husband showing him how this new bike operated and how to lock the bike. When I walked up with a new spirit bell that I had purchased for my husband, Gunny took it and informed us that my husband was not to touch it until it had been hung on his bike. While Gunny strapped it on to part of the bike, he had my husband read the history of the spirit bell and how it wards off road gremlins that would mess up a good day of riding.
I will tell you that it still does not feel real that we own that beautiful Harley Davidson Heritage. I never in a million years thought we would get the financing for a motorcycle through Harley Davidson. Yet everyone there at Surdyke made our dreams a reality and I will forever be thankful for that.
Purchasing that motorcycle was unlike purchasing anything else I have ever purchased. I have never seen a place treat customers the way that I seen everyone there at Surdyke Harley Davidson treat theirs. I would highly recommend anyone that wants to purchase a Harley Davidson motorcycle, to go and purchase one from Surdyke Harley Davidson in Festus, Missouri. We are now a part of the family and you can be too.
