The goods at Sweet Avenue Bake Shop are not for the weak. You need willpower to avoid going there every day or buying every product they have. Despite my declaration that I was only going to go once in awhile, I wandered in there twice in two weeks. The cheery pink and white décor along and the cupcake curtain in the door window makes you feel happy when you walk in. The assortment of cupcakes that greets you gives you an anticipated sugar high happiness.
What originally drew me to Sweet Avenue Bake Shop is that they are one hundred percent dairy and egg free, so vegans can rejoice. They are also cholesterol free and offer gluten free items on Fridays and Saturdays. For those of you that cannot imagine your baked goods made without dairy, you will not miss a thing. I gave some taste testers a piece of cupcake and they could not tell the difference.
During my first visit, I picked up a Goji Berry Brownie, which was so big I ended up splitting it with a few other people over the course of two days. The brownie is 1.25 inches high and is 4 inches wide and 4 inches in length. The brownie has chunks of Goji berries in it and has a chewy consistency. Do not expect gobs of frosting on the top; you will only find a drizzle of chocolate. I love frosting as much as the next person, but I did not miss it at all. The brownie had all of the flavor I wanted.
On my second visit, I picked up a Rocky Raccoon cupcake, which is comprised of chocolate cake, chocolate frosting, chocolate ganache, almonds and marshmallow cream. The first thing I noticed is how the cupcake was heavier than any other I have held before. The cupcake was decadent, delicious, and moist and had the most organic taste.
The menu changes on a daily basis. They have six classic flavors that are available daily and cost $2.50 each. The rest of the cupcakes are gourmet flavors and cost $3.00 each. I have heard some people gasp when I stated how much one cupcake costs, and my response is that considering the exceptional quality of the products I have had, I am willing to pay it.
Both times I have been in Sweet Avenue Bake Shop, I encountered smiles and kindness. I hate walking into a business where I can tell that the person helping me hates their job or does not want to be there- the vibe is intense and it makes me feel uncomfortable. I have never once felt that when visiting the Sweet Avenue Bake Shop nor have I gotten the indication of that through their Facebook page (yes, they have one!).
Sweet Avenue Bake Shop offers delivery for up to two hundred miles with a minimum purchase of a dozen cupcakes. You can view their daily cupcake menu on sweetavenuebakeshop.com. They also accept advance orders. Sweet Avenue Bake Shop is closed on Mondays, open on Tuesday through Saturday from 11am-7pm and Sundays they are open 11am-5pm.
