I was introduced to the wide world of protein supplements about three years ago, when I had gastric bypass surgery. Since I can't eat as much food as I used to eat, sometimes I don't get enough protein from my diet. Protein shakes are an easy way to increase my protein intake.
Unfortunately, many protein supplements do not taste very good. I've tried numerous different brands and flavors, looking for something I can actually enjoy. I've discovered many I don't like and a few that I do. Syntrax Nectar cappuccino flavor is my latest favorite.
One scoop of Syntrax Nectar has just 90 calories and 23 grams of protein. It has no fat and no sugar. Those are great numbers, but a protein shake needs to taste good, too, if I'm going to drink it.
I've tried a few other flavors made by Syntrax Nectar and didn't care for them that much. However, I know that sometimes I like some flavors of a particular brand even though I dislike others. Lately I've really been in the mood for coffee-flavored things and enjoying treats like pumpkin spice lattes, so I thought I'd give the cappuccino flavor a try.
I typically make my protein shakes in a blender because I've found the powder usually dissolves better that way. However, when trying out other flavors of Syntrax Nectar, I found that this brand becomes extremely foamy when mixed in a blender. So I decided to try the cappuccino flavor shaken in a cup with a lid instead.
I poured about 12 ounces of soy milk into my cup, then added a scoop of cappuccino protein powder, put the lid on the cup and shook. There was a thin layer of foam on the top of the liquid, but not too much. The powder dissolved completely. I tasted it, then added a tiny bit of instant coffee and a small amount of Splenda to sweeten it up a bit. I shook some more, then added a few ice cubes.
It was delicious. Really, really delicious. The taste reminded me of a bottled Starbucks frappuccino, but this is cheaper and actually healthful for me. It's also caffeine free! Of course, if you don't like coffee-flavored drinks this will not be a favorite for you, but otherwise I highly recommend it.
