Thai Lotus is a small restaurant situated in a strip mall a few blocks from the beach, but what it lacks in size, it certainly makes up for in taste and service. Immediately after you are seated at Thai Lotus, you will be greeted by your cordial and attentive servers who are always available to refill your glass with water or the beverage of your choice. The menu at Thai Lotus is fairly extensive, and there are many choices to please even the most discriminating diner. In addition to the traditional Thai dishes such as curry and Pad Thai, the menu also offers seafood, salads, and desserts.
Thai Lotus serves lunch and dinner and also provides patrons with an early bird menu Monday through Friday until 6 PM. The early bird special includes an entrée, a salad, dessert, and a beverage for less than $10. I always order the red curry with tofu and it is absolutely delicious. The curry sauce has just the right amount of coconut milk and is mixed with an assortment of vegetables. I order the dish mild, but it can be served as spicy as you prefer and can be made with beef, chicken, or tofu.
The salad at Thai Lotus is also worth mentioning. The peanut dressing that accompanies the salad is spectacular--it's sweet, but not too sweet like other peanut dressings that I have eaten elsewhere. Another specialty of the restaurant are the fried bananas served for dessert. The bananas are fried in a crispy wonton wrapper and served with a vanilla dipping sauce.
Besides the food, there are several other reasons why Thai Lotus is a stand out compared with the other Thai restaurants in the area. The service at Thai Lotus is truly exceptional. The servers are attentive, polite, and accommodating. Whenever I visit the restaurant--even if it hasn't been for months--the servers remember that I don't like peas or carrots in my curry. Also, the servers are always available and happy to provide you with extra rice if you so desire. Other Thai restaurants that I have been to give you a miniscule plate of rice with your dish and charge extra if you ask for more.
Thai Lotus is by far the best Thai restaurant in Palm Beach County. The great food and superb service are second to none, so head north to Tequesta the next time you're in the mood for a taste of Thailand and experience it for yourself.
