Review of the Titanic Museum in Branson, Missouri

Take a Voyage on the Titanic

Cyndee Kromminga
If you and your family are going to visit Branson, Missouri, a popular attraction is the Titanic Museum. The building itself is an awesome two story replica of the Titanic. At 100 feet tall, it is a half scale of the original and it is impressive. The end of the ship is positioned right up to the street and with the help of a fountain, it looks as if it is speeding through the water. You are greeted by a uniformed crew member who awards you with a boarding pass of an actual passenger of the Titanic's voyage. After you purchase your tickets, you turn to a wall of an iceberg. You are encouraged to rub your hands on it to feel it's authenticity.

This museum is full of information, both documentation and pictures. There is a lot of reading in every gallery. If you are taking small children who are not able to read or can not read well, this may seem a bit daunting. Be sure to rent a hand held audio tour quid for $5.00 to help keep their interest. Your tour of the Titanic includes real stories of the passengers and crew and authentic memorabilia. Clothes, letters, jewelry, trunks and life vests are just a few of the items on display. You will see an 18 foot replica model of the Titanic, view the Captain's bridge, peek into authentic sleeping quarters and look inside the first class dining salon.

The tour may seem noisy until you realize you are hearing the sounds of the Titanic as you proceed along your self guided tour, from the kitchen and dining room to the furnace room. There are numerous facts at every turn. You will even be astounded by the "grocery" list of food items that were on the Titanic. Under an impressive chandelier, follow the beautiful staircase to the upper decks and view first class quarters along with information and memorabilia from the movie "Titanic".

There is a gallery that imitates the outer deck of the Titanic at night, with starry skies and frigid temperatures. At the end of your tour, you will view walls in the Memorial Room with the names of all the crew and passengers. They are separated according to class and crew to easily locate names. It is at this time when you will learn the fate of the name on your boarding pass.

End your Titanic Museum excursion with a look around the gift shop for souvenirs from this fateful voyage.

I'm going to have to check this museum out. I'd love to take a stroll through recreated rooms and decks from the ship, particularly the Grand Staircase!
