Review of the Toktumi Line 2 Phone Service

Virtual Office Phone Service May Help You Save Money on Calls

Darrin Atkins
If you are interested in saving money on your cell phone plans in the United States, you may consider a new service called Line 2 from a company named Toktumi. For a small monthly fee, you can get a full range of cell phone services that work whenever you are near a WiFi connection.

Toktumi is a relatively new company that appears likely to revolutionize the world of mobile phones and telephone calling. Specifically, Toktumi's Line2 service has a chance to really save people plenty of money in a number of ways.

You can find more information about Toktumi at its main Web site at this link or you can get specific information about Toktumi's Line2 service at this link. You may want to review these Web sites first to get an idea of the service.

Recently Toktumi and Line2 have been getting a lot of publicity and news coverage. In a recent nytimes.com article, a reviewer discussed how Line2 can give you a second phone number on your iPhone or Blackberry and how this number and its services can be utilized whenever your phone is near a WiFi signal.

It appears that when your phone accesses this WiFi signal, your phone can switch from coverage from, say, AT&T, to Line2's internet phone service, thus allowing you not to have to use your precious plan minutes.

Currently, Line2 is not free and there is a charge of approximately $15 a month. This is a small charge of you can somehow obtain a WiFi-enabled device that has no phone service contract. Then, in theory, you could use the Toktumi Line2 service to make and receive phone calls for only this $15 charge a month. Of course you would always need to make sure you are close to a WiFi signal.

If you are interested in learning more about the many features from Toktumi's Line2 service, visit their "Why Toktumi?" page at this Web link. There is even, at this time, a free trial of 30 days so you can see if this type of service will work for you.

If you have an iPhone or a Blackberry and this type of phone service is interesting to you, check out Line2 at this page or, find Blackberry users, head on over to this link.

Of course there may be an inconvenience involved in switching from your current plan to a plan using only the Line2 service, if that is what you are thinking about doing. Many people may be content with simply using Line2's services as a second phone line, or as a way to use the internet to make calls instead of using plan minutes.

This Line2 service offers many of the same types of services currently offered by Google Voice which can be found at this Web page. Some of these services include a single phone number that can be dialed to call multiple phones at the same time, voicemail transcription, and international calling.

I tried Line2 and was very disappointed. I missed a bunch of incoming phone calls that went straight to VM. It was ALWAYS switching me back to the ATT network. All in all I was unimpressed. Finally, after I'd tried out the service for free, they automatically billed my card for another month of service with no warning. I tried to get it figured out with them, but they don't have phone support, only online chat, which was essentially useless. A communications company without a phone number? Foolish! Go with the free alternatives. I certainly wish I did!
