Review of Tommy Emmanuel's 'All I Want for Christmas'

Mike Spain

Tommy Emmanuel's latest release "All I Want for Christmas" displays his talented guitar playing in a controlled setting covering ten classic Christmas tunes and adding two new ones. One of the new songs is a Tommy Emmanuel original. John Knowles accompanies Tommy on most of the tracks. The CD is one of the best Christmas collections of the season, and is a collection that can be enjoyed by music lovers of all ages.

Jason Knowles is an accomplished finger style guitarist in his own right. His classical guitar playing complements Emmanuel's playing perfectly. John also co-produces the album with Kim Person. The production team produces a crisp, clean collection on the project.

The new arrangement of familiar tunes is a wonderful soundtrack for the Holidays. The new songs blend in like they were lost classics. The collection is wonderful to play while reflecting on the season, in the office, or at a Holiday gathering.

The instrumental album opens up with a familiar classic rendition of "Rudolph The Red-Nose Reindeer." Other classics include "White Christmas," "Jingle Bells," "The Christmas Song," "Silent Night," "I'll Be Home for Christmas" and "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town."

One of the new songs is written by Rick Price and features Rick on piano. It is called "The Magic of Christmas Time." Tommy shines accompanied only by a piano. However, Tommy does not over shadow anyone on the album and the concentration is on the tune. The other new song is written by Tommy Emmanuel called "One Christmas Night."

What separates this collection of Christmas music is the finger style guitar playing. The songs sound beautiful. They are played by a master guitarist with updated arrangements. These are songs the artist has always loved. He recorded these songs with a friend. The love and friendship is captured on the album

Finally, one of the finest finger style guitar players in the world has created a Christmas album. The two time Grammy nominated, multiple award winning, guitar master delivers a dozen Holiday treats for the ears.
