Review of Trader Joe's Baked Jalapeno Cheese Crunchies

Candice W.
I'm a big fan of jalapeno peppers and jalapeno flavor snacks so I was immediately drawn to Trader Joe's Baked Jalapeno Cheese Crunchies during a recent shopping trip. Here's what I think of this snack.

Trader Joe's boasts that their Baked Jalapeno Cheese Crunchies have 33 percent less fat than regular cheese crunchies. The fat was reduced from 9 grams to 6 grams of fat per serving. Each package is 7 ounces.

The Trader Joe's Baked Jalapeno Cheese Crunchies are similar in size and consistency as Frito-Lay Cheetos. They are a light golden color with specs of green for the jalapeno pepper flavoring. The package is clear so you see what you're getting and it may further pique your interest.

When I first tasted the snack one thing I noticed about the Trader Joe's Baked Jalapeno Cheese Crunchies is that they aren't very cheesy. It's a milder taste. So if you're looking for something that tastes like Cheetos, this wouldn't be the snack for you. The jalapeno offers some flavors, but there isn't much spice. This is good for those that want the flavor, but not the spicy heat.

The price is really reasonably at $1.59 per 7-ounce package. It doesn't cost much to try this snack to see if you like it. The shelf life of this snack is about three months so you have a little while to try them after purchasing a bag. The crunchies are pretty filling so you'll be able to make the bag last, unless you share with others.

A serving of Trader Joe's Baked Jalapeno Cheese Crunchies is 33 crunchies and there are about seven servings per bag. Each serving has 130 calories with 50 calories from fat. There are 6 grams of fat per serving with one gram of saturated fat and 0 grams in trans fat. Each serving of crunchies also has 0 mg of cholesterol, 200 mg of sodium and 19 grams of carbohydrates. There are 2 grams of dietary fiber and 2 grams of protein.

If you're wondering what exactly is in these crunchies, they're made of cornmeal, expeller pressed oil, cheddar cheese, salt, buttermilk solids, maltodextrin, rice flour onion powder, whey (milk), parsley powder, jalapeno pepper powder, green bell pepper powder, lactic acid, garlic powder, natural flavor and spice extract.

Overall I would recommend giving Trader Joe's Baked Jalapeno Cheese Crunchies a try if you're looking for a new cool looking snack. The price is reasonable and they're fun to share. If you're looking for something spicy though, skip this snack.

I probably wouldn't care for them.. I like spice and a good degree of heat. Now I don't eat them... but wish I could!
