Review: Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Edamame

I recently tried the Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Edamame for the first time. Here is my review of the chocolate covered soybean treat.

For a few weeks my husband has been asking me to pick up some Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Edamame, but I've been hesitant. Dark chocolate covered soybeans didn't really seem appealing to me because I'm not used to the idea of chocolate covered vegetables.

During my latest trip to Trader Joe's I finally decided that I was going to pick up the Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Edamame at my husband's request. The clear plastic packaging was attractive with its light green label. I found the product on the upper shelf with the other various candies and snacks sold exclusively at Trader Joe's

While looking at the clear plastic container, I learned that the chocolaty candy treat has 7 grams of soy protein per serving. There are no artificial colors or flavors and no preservatives. This product also contains no gluten. Gluten free products are all the health rave right now so this was a plus and an extra incentive to purchase.

When I first tried the Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Edamame I first noticed the dark chocolate flavor. Dark chocolate isn't as sweet as milk chocolate and I noticed the difference. Still the dark chocolate was tasty as it covered the soybeans. It complemented the soybeans well. As I bit into the nuggets of chocolate covered edamame I was able to taste the nutty flavor of the soybeans. This was a nice treat and it's best to eat a few with each serving.

Another hesitancy I had about this product was the price of $3.29 for a 10 ounce container. If you eat the Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Edamame in moderation, the price doesn't seem so bad. I wouldn't recommend the chocolate covered edamame has a regular snack, but it can make a nice treat a few times a year.

A serving size is 1/4 cup and there are about 7 servings per container. Each serving has 200 calories including 100 fat calories. There are 11 grams of fat per serving, 21 grams of carbohydrates, 5 mg of cholesterol, 60 mg of sodium, 13 grams of sugars and 7 grams of protein.

If you're wondering what's in the Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Edamame, the ingredients include semi sweet chocolate, dry roasted edamame and dextrin (corn). It's made and sold specifically by Trader Joe's.

I would recommend the Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Edamame if you're looking for a semi sweet treat with a little twist. This is perfect for fans of chocolate and/or edamame.
