Review of the Tri Spy Educational Family Board Game

Lola Inez
All families should have a few board games and one of the top picks is the Tri Spy educational family board game. The award winning game in the past received the Parent's Choice Silver Award in addition to the Major Fun Award for 2011 (www.fatbraintoys.com).

Tri-Spy is a cool fast paced game that is based on pattern matching. In addition to being loads of fun the educational game encourages visual spatial skills, problem solving, increases reaction time, helps to further develop problem solving skills and strategic planning as well as promoting focus and concentration.

Tri Spy is a card game that is designed for 1 to 6 players at least 8 years of age and up. The premise of the game is spotting a pattern on the board that matches the 12 cards that are set up around the boards perimeter at the beginning of the game with all other cards placed face down in a deck. Eight tokens are placed on the board which are moved one at a tie to a spot with the goal of recreating the pattern on one of the 12 cards. Players are alerted once the pattern is found and shown the matching pattern. The player then keeps the card and pulls a card from the deck. The game progresses until all cards are gone with players playing simultaneously. Whoever ends the game with the most cards is the winner.

What is cool about this game is that everyone learns in a different way and this same concept applies to recognizing patterns. Some people see colors first whereas others see designs and or white space. Tri Spy is a fabulous way to increase your attention to detail, focus and eye-hand coordination. In fact, Tri Spy is truly a thinker's game because it is fast paced and not based on the premise of taking turns players are forced to bring their A-game to the table thus further developing brain power while having fun.

Tri Spy comes with a game board, 8 colorful wooden tokens, 60 cards and instructions that provide various methods of playing the game to keep things fresh including a version for a single player. Tri Spy can be found at Fat Brain Toys for under $15.
