Because of the great business this family-owned establishment does, there are several large dining rooms at The Tuckahoe Inn to accommodate guests. There is a formal dining room, a more casual enclosed porch next to the water, a banquet room, a bar, and outside seating.
I sat in the enclosed porch which I'd highly recommend after relaxing at the bar while waiting for our table. You'll enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the outdoors with the convenience of cool air conditioning. Plus the numerous windows make the room bright and inviting.
The service is top notch at The Tuckahoe Inn. The hostesses greeted us and made us feel welcome and the waitresses, both at the bar and in the dining room, were friendly, knowledgeable, and on the ball. Neither of them wrote down our orders, but were able to deliver exactly what we were hoping for to a tee. We really enjoyed their presence.
The best part of our visit to The Tuckahoe Inn, was of course, the food. Mostly importantly the dish that I was hoping for wasn't on the menu. I had my hopes set on Fried Shrimp and when I inquired about it, the waitress said they can make me whatever I want as long as they have the ingredients. Since they do have shrimp at The Tuckahoe Inn, they made me a plate of seven large, very tender shrimp encased in the best fried batter I've ever had. It came with a crispy salad with choice of dressing, red skinned potatoes, and fresh green beans. Although I did stick with what it came with, the option was there to order something else on the side if I wanted. Among the choices were mashed potatoes, apple sauce, and sautéed mushrooms. I am sure there were other options - these were just the items that I observed others enjoying.
I'd highly recommend the Prime Rib dish in addition to my lush fried shrimp meal. Someone in my party had the Prime Rib and I was able to sample it. It was a large portion of tender meat, complete with Au Jus Sauce and horseradish. Not to mention, the chefs know what "well done" means. It was perfect!
There are plenty of other things on the menu at The Tuckahoe Inn for a discriminating palette. Stuffed flounder, turkey platter, Scallops Granitee, oysters, Veal Parmesan, Chicken Francaise, Lamb Chops, and more are on the menu. You can also get a variety of appetizers, salads, soups, and sandwiches. A plentiful children's menu is also available at The Tuckahoe Inn.
And don't go there without trying dessert. I shared a large piece of chocolate layer cake topped with thick dark chocolate icing and a piece of chocolate candy in the shape of the moon on top. The cake was moist and the icing was like fudge. It was very rich and most tasty! I'd recommend sharing it as I did, particularly if you just had a big meal.
The only thing I was over thrilled with during my visit to The Tuckahoe Inn was the glass of wine that I had. It was a Riesling, and although I don't think there was anything really wrong with it, I've had better. Perhaps I am just a bit spoiled when it comes to the wine. I've had many good Rieslings. Those in my party seemed to enjoy their drinks though, which include a Tom Collins and a Whiskey Sour.
If you aren't out for a heavy meal or feel uncomfortable about bringing the kids to a formal dining room, The Tuckahoe Inn is still for you. Simply visit the outside deck overlooking the water for a more casual atmosphere. Complete with picnic tables and two outdoor bars, you can order from a lighter fare menu (the dining room menu is not available outside) which includes appetizers, pizza, and more. The kids will love it because there is an ice cream stand for them to pick out their own ice cream!

Post a CommentWe used to enjoy family lunches and dinners at Tuckahoe (some better than others) but our most recent experience was so terrible I will never return. My son and myself ordered the fried oysters and chicken salad. We received something I identified as being frozen fried clam strips with a very tiny portion of so-so chicken salad and a tiny portion of steam table vegetables. The waitress dissapeared and never asked us if everything was alright. I had the bus boy track her down and asked her about the identity of the food she served us and requested tartar sauce for my fried meal. She said they were out of the 'plump oysters' but these in fact were oysters (not!) She was obviously irritated and brought me three slopping over containers of tartar suace which she side-wiped with her fingers as she was walking toward me. A horrible over priced meal with even worse service.
Nice review!
Excellent review and I'd love to try those shrimp!
