Review of TV Show - Medium

Dhaval Joshi
Medium, which airs on NBC, is the fictionalized account of real life consultant to the district attorney's office, Allison Dubois. She uses her psychic abilities to talk to the dead, and sees the future in her dreams, to prevent and solve crimes that are mysteries to her fellow law enforcers.

Allison Dubois' unique story begins during her final semester at Arizona State University. She was interning at the DA's office at the time. It wasn't long after, that researchers at the University of Arizona documented her psychic ability through some tests, where she scored exceptionally high on accuracy and specificity. When she received this validation of her abilities, it sent her plans on a different path than the one she had originally planned on, to be a prosecuting attorney. She instead has become a professional medium/profiler.

In her career, which is quite short, she has conducted over 1200 personal readings. When she gives readings, she tries to alleviate the pain that most people carry when they lose a loved one. She allows herself to be tested by the scientific community for research that concerns the afterlife. For the last four years, she has spent time participating in various tests for the University of Arizona. She also takes an active role in the direction and execution of research as a member of the Verities Research Program Mediums Committee, and is also a member of the medium advisory board for the Forever Family Foundation.

People like Allison and John Edward, another popular medium with his own television show, have brought much relief to countless people who are mired in the grief of the loss of their loved ones. I am one of those people myself. I lost my mother four years ago to pancreatic cancer, and I can say that John Edward has brought me comfort by letting me know, through other peoples stories, that my mom is out there and looking out for me and my sons. Like John Edward often says, our loved ones send us messages subtlety, not with a big billboard sign, so you should always be on the look-out.

You can say that grieving people will believe anything they are told, but that just isn't true. I am an intelligent woman and it has become obvious to me, that if we look, we will find that our loved ones, who have seemingly left us, are really here and are aware of the plight of the living that they have left behind. Each time you hear that song on the radio that is a signature tune of the one you lost, that is them telling you that they are there and they hear you. Medium, and other shows like it, are a comfort to those who lost loved ones and need some kind of validation that their loved ones are still with them.

These days, Allison Dubois gives her time to missing/murdered people and criminal cases all across the United States. Law enforcement agencies as well as grieving families contact her for her help in finding missing persons and murdered people. She also aides the district attorney in jury selection. For Allison, it is merely a means for her to return to the rest of us, her gratefulness for being so blessed.
