Review: Urban Decay's Cocoa Flavored Body Powder

The Pen
Awhile back I was shopping at Sephora when I decided to try out Urban Decay's Body Powder in Cocoa. I was looking for a product that would give my body a sexy, golden glow ala Beyonce.

The Cocoa Body Powder comes in a box covered in bronze colored foil. Inside the powder is held in a plastic container that has a few holes in it to release the powder. The holes are covered with Urban Decay's signature leopard print puff which rests on top of the container. Overall the packaging is sexy yet playful, 12g of the Urban Decay flavored powders cost $26.

Urban Decay claims that their cocoa flavored body powder creates a seductive sheen and that it can be dusted on the shoulders, face, and decolletage. The box describes the cocoa flavor with words like "delicious, sugary, scented, tasty, and shiny."

Cocoa contains mica, iron oxides, titanium dioxide, acacia senegal gum, sodium saccharin, maltodextrin, flavor, sorbic acid, and butylparaben.

When I applied the powder I found that it was super easy to apply, you just dust it on. And it did smell great, it has a sugary chocolate flavor that lasts for hours. It also tastes sweet but Urban Decay stresses that it's only supposed to be licked for fun, not to replace a meal.

Even though the Cocoa flavored body powder smelled great it didn't give me exactly the look I was going for. I wanted my body to look dewy, radiant, and flawless. Since this product is a powder it's not very concentrated so the color deposit and the glow it gives off is more subtle.

I think the only way I'll get that flawless glow is with a liquid body bronzer, but nevertheless I still like the effect that I achieved with the Urban Decay Cocoa powder.

The powder is the color of bronze brown sugar with golden shimmer mixed throughout it. It's slightly darker than my skin tone and it makes my skin look slightly more tan. It helped to even out the tan lines on my shoulders and overall it makes my skin look more golden, bronze, and sparkly.

I apply it to my shoulders, arms, legs, and decolletage to make them sparkle. I probably wouldn't use it on my face though, unless I was in a very festive mood. It doesn't look bad that way, but the shimmer is too obvious to use on the face on a casual afternoon.

In the End...

For a subtle, sexy, easy to apply glow that really compliments tan or dark skin, I'd recommend Urban Decay's Cocoa Flavored Body Powder. But if you're looking for dramatically darker or shiny looking skin, I'd skip it and try a liquid luminizer instead. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
