Review: Valu-Time Egg Noodles

A couple days ago, I decided to make chicken for dinner since I already had some chicken breasts in our freezer. And, because it is becoming my preferred method of cooking lately, I decided to make them in the slow cooker.

The chicken breasts had a lot more water in them than I was expecting and, seeing that my slow cooker was half full of water/broth anyway, I decided to just convert the whole thing into chicken noodle soup. And, since I didn't have noodles (of course), I ended up running to the store to buy some. I ended up purchasing a bag of egg noodles from the Valu-Time brand.

I actually had a few different brands to choose from when it came to egg noodles, including a couple brands I've tried in the past and was happy with. However, since I still had a week until payday and our bank account was starting to get a little low, I decided to purchase the cheapest brand I could find and that happened to be the Valu-Time brand.

I have had this brand in the past and, while there were a few items I wasn't overly impressed with, I have found quite a few products that were just as good as some of the more expensive brands. Unfortunately, when it came to this particular product, that was not the case.

Since my make-shift soup was pretty much already done and I didn't want to wait for the noodles to cook in the slow cooker, I decided to make these the regular way, in a pot. I also did this because I was afraid they would get a bit too mushy if I did make them in the slow cooker.

However, despite taking this precaution, the noodles did not come out anywhere near as good as expected. I didn't cook them for too long on the stove, just until they were starting to get soft. But, despite the limited cooking time, they still got very mushy. There was no substance to them at all and, as we were eating the soup (which I served over the cooked noodles) there was time when it was a bit like eating paste.

Needless to say, this was a pretty big disappointment because it pretty much ruined the dinner I worked so hard to make. In fact, I was so disappointed, I'm not sure if I'm going to even bother cooking the second half of the bag.

If you are shopping for egg noodles, I recommend spending a bit more money and avoiding this brand.
