Research suggests that vitamin D levels below 80 place people at increased risk for numerous health problems, although some doctors say you don't need levels that high. When I had mine tested, it was only 20. My partner's was 37, my sister's was 41 and my mother's was frighteningly low at just 15. If you have not had your vitamin D tested, I strongly encourage you to do so. It's a simple blood test and if you have health insurance, your insurance will probably pay for it. If you don't have health insurance, it's not that expensive if you pay for it yourself; it cost my partner just $70 to have his tested at a local lab.
If your vitamin D level is low, doctors often recommend taking a prescription form of vitamin D. However, you cannot get vitamin D3 by prescription, only vitamin D2, and vitamin D3 is absorbed significantly better.
You can find low doses of vitamin D3 in any drugstore, grocery store or other store that carries vitamins. Most stores carry both dry vitamin D3 and vitamin D3 in oil. Since vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin, many people absorb vitamin D3 better when it's in oil. However, some people need dry vitamin D3, including those that had bariatric surgery. If you have had your gall bladder removed, you may also absorb dry vitamin D3 better.
Vitalady Tender D3-50 is a fairly small capsule that contains 50,000 IU of dry vitamin D3. Vitalady markets vitamin and mineral supplements to bariatric surgery patients, but the Tender D3-50 is suitable for anyone that needs a high dose of vitamin D3. Even if you do not require dry vitamin D3, this supplement will provide you with a good amount of good quality vitamin D. Discuss the appropriate dose for you with your doctor; many people do not require 50,000 IU dry D3 daily, but may take only one or two capsules per week.
I've been using this supplement since discovering my vitamin D level was low and it has helped me greatly. I highly recommend it. If you have any questions about this supplement or about vitamin D in general, I suggest giving the owner of Vitalady a call. Michelle is highly knowledgeable and can help you select the right supplements for your needs.
