The Bass Freqs are made by V-Moda, a relatively new company to the world of headphones, and they advertise themselves as "the remixed blend of high fashion and high fidelity." They come in 8 standard colors: white, red, orange, green, black, blue, purple, and pink. The earphones come with small, medium, and large sized silicone ear fittings and a Modawrap cable manager, which is a V-shaped piece of silicone that allows one to easily manage the cable length.
Design
V-Moda promotes the Bass Freqs as fashionable earpieces, and they do indeed look very chic. The logo and the standard left and right ear pieces are brightly shown, and the size of these things are just tiny. I was staring at these for a few minutes laughing and wondering how I'd fit these in my ear. They are incredibly miniscule and despite its appearance, it does a really good job of staying in the ear when you have a proper sized ear fitting. Once concern I had, and this may be a deal breaker for some, was that the cable was really thin. Over the past year, I've had to get 4 replacements and apparently the problem was due to the straight headphone jack which is unlike most earphones that have a curved jack. Recently however, V-Moda announced that they will start shipping their products with a curved jack which I believe fixes most of the problems customers had about the cable. Despite its new jack, the Bass Freqs still have a thin cable, so it is something that should be cautiously maintained.
Design: 8/10
Sound Quality
In spite of its tiny size, the Bass Freqs gives a tremendous amount of power. I'm not exaggerating when I say this, these things are LOUD. In my opinion, louder is better as I can reduce the volume of my P2 to save battery and still be able to hear plenty of sound coming out of these cans. As its name suggests, the Bass Freqs give off lots of bass, but not to the point of overpowering the mids and highs. The mids were decent and the highs were pretty good. When I first listened to these, I couldn't believe that they costed me just $20. These earphones are probably one of the best investments I've made so far in my life. I don't consider myself an audiophile, however it's really obvious to the average consumer how much richer the intonation is coming from the V-Moda's when compared to standard, crappy iPod earphones. For its price, you'll be hard pressed to find another pair of earphones that can deliver as much quality as the Bass Freqs.
Sound: 9/10
Conclusion
I think that for 20 dollars, these earphones are the best deals you can find in the world of speakers and headphones. It is unquestionably a terrific pair of headphones with some minor drawbacks. In spite of being thin on cable thickness, it is obvious why critics are raving about the Bass Freqs, including me. If you're looking to buy a pair of decent earphones that won't break the bank, these should be at the top of your list.
Overall: 8.5/10
