Review of Wal-Mart Supercenter in Seminole, Oklahoma

Shocking Information Revealed

Tara Cellars
My mom is working for the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Seminole, OK. I will not say her name, but I will say that she has been working there for a while. She was hired on as temporary and then hired permanent after the holidays. My mother was not looking for a career; she was just looking for a place to work to get the bills paid. She just told me the other day that the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Seminole is not going to be considered a Supercenter anymore. Pretty soon they will be closing earlier instead of staying open all night. Because of Wal-Mart's more recent constructions, Seminole's Wal-Mart Supercenter is not really big enough to be called a Supercenter. That means that most likely they will be laying off people, it's my prediction! If you don't know much about Seminole, the one thing you should know is that Wal-Mart is one of the top employers in the town; they employ well over 300 people.

The shopping is very good at this store. They just recently remodeled and removed the fabrics department. This store does not have a bakery, so you cannot but a cake from here. If you live in this town you will have to buy one from Homeland or drive to the Wal-Mart in Shawnee and order one. There are a few bakeries around Seminole, but they are very pricey if you need a larger cake. Wal-Mart also used to have a great sporting good department. It has shrunk more and there are only a few good fishing poles, plus they don't have as many options for plastic bait and tackle. In my honest opinion, I can say that some of the store changes have improved my perception of the store, but they have also lost a lot of customers during the remodeling process.

Each day you would come in and products would be moved around. It was not easy to get in and get out or one stop shop because it might take you hours to find everything you were looking for. I quit shopping at Wal-Mart during the remodeling because it was always hard to find the items you wanted to buy or it was a disappointment to find they weren't selling them anymore. I searched at this store for over an hour one day trying to find a toy for my nephew who had just turned 1. There were a few options in the baby department and the toy aisle for that age group was pretty much nonexistent. I resorted to the Family Dollar in town.

The grocery department is excellent though, they do carry excellent produce. The meat isn't the best, but it isn't the worst in town either. The cashier's are fairly friendly, but sometimes a little too friendly with their friends that work at Wal-Mart. I've had many bad experiences with the cashiers at Wal-Mart. The most recent one was when we were in a hurry. We were in the express lane and just trying to get our items and get out. The cashier was talking to her friend the whole time she was checking us out. She literally stopped checking us out to talk to her friend. I had to tell her that she was either going to ring us up or I was going to get her supervisor and tell her what the problem was. It's not that hard to be a cashier and it is not proper work etiquette to talk to your friend if you are in a customer service related job.

Grocery Department I will break down into three groups: Produce, Meat, and Other. Produce receives a five out of five because of the wide and fresh selection that they offer. Meat receives a two out of five, the quality of some of their beef and chicken is not very good. Other receives a four out of five because they do have a lot to offer, but they do not carry a lot of health brands! The clothing departments for men, women and children receive a five out of five because they have a lot to offer, but also it is kept tidy by the employees in the department, they are always zoning. The pharmacy receives a two out of five because the long wait to get a prescription filled. The toy department gets a three out of five because they do not have a good selection of toys for tots, but also they quit carrying a cheaper brand of toys they used to have. Housewares receives a five out of five because they do offer a good selection of products. Automotive receives a five out of five for selection and also cleanliness. Sporting goods receives a three out of five because they could offer a much better selection. Electronics gets a four out of five because their staff isn't knowledgeable to answer any questions about the products they have to offer. Fabrics gets a big fat zero out of five because it is now nonexistent. Health and beauty receives a five out of five because they probably have the best selection of products in the store. And the garden center receives a five out of five because the products you can buy there are amazing.

My overall score for Wal-Mart Supercenter in Seminole Oklahoma is an average of three and a half stars.

I started a home-based bakery here in Seminole OK in June 2009. My website is www.pieceofcake-seminole.com and I run an ad in the Producer. I do cakes, pies, cookies, cobbler, cheesecake, brownies, and my own recipe breakfast bars. There is no need to go to Shawnee for a quality cake - just call me! 220-5685
