Review of Week 1 in the NFL

Terry Rode
The first week of the 2010 NFL season is over and there are a lot things to discuss. There are a lot of surprises, and a lot of disappointments, and I will list the top 5 of each category.

5 Disappointments:

5. Indianapolis Colts - Yea, all the experts predicted the Texans would win this game, but did they believe it? I mean Arian Foster ran circles around the Colts defense. The Texans have increased their win totals each season for the last 3 years, and all signs point to them making the playoffs this year. The Colts are also the only team from the AFC South to lose last week. Oh boy.

4. Kevin Kolb - Mr. McNabb-Replacement was a great backup last year. Good things were the only outcomes out of this situation for Kolb and the Eagles. But an early injury literally knocked him out of the game after only 10 passes in the entire game. Eagles fans, now you got Vick, who was probably the best choice for starting QB in the first place.

3. Dallas Cowboys - The Cowboys lost in their season opener. Every year someone says "The Cowboys will make the playoffs this year" and they probably will, but the will not be the first team in NFL history to host a Super Bowl and play in it at the same time. Sorry Romo, you suck, you've always sucked, and McNabb showed you up last Sunday night.

2. AFC West - Seems like every year the AFC West division sends the Chargers to the playoffs and nothing every happens with them. Well last week only one AFC West team won. And it wasn't the Chargers. It was the Chiefs. Yes, Matt Cassel and the Kansas City Chiefs. More on them a little bit later on in the article.

The biggest disappointment in week one was Ryan Grant, RB for the Green Bay Packers. This was supposed to be a great year for him and the whole team. He now is in the Injured Reserve list with a season-ending injury against the Eagles. FANTASY FOOTBALL ALERT: Probably should drop him now to make room or Michael Vick on your team.

5 Surprises:

5. Pittsburgh Steelers Win without Big Ben - Yes, it took overtime to do it, but the Steelers did win their first of 4 games without Big Ben. Everyone says the Steelers will be 1-3 or 0-4 without Big Ben. Well so far they are 1 for 1 and Dennis Dixon is not the bad QB expert say he is. I wouldn't start him on my fantasy team, but he's a good QB nonetheless.

4. Donovan McNabb's first Redskins win - McNabb showed he still has it in him to take a team to victory when he and the Redskins beat up on the Cowboys. They might actually be a contender in the division, but it is still way too early to tell that yet.

3. Houston Texans beat the Colts - Yes. They did. In awesome fashion. For only the second time in the team's history, the Texans scored more points in a game against the Colts. And now they are shown as numero uno in the AFC South division. Arian Foster, Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson are the new trio to watch out for in the AFC.

2. Chiefs win on Monday Night - The Kansas City Chiefs are the only team in the AFC West to have a win so far. Yeah, Matt Cassel is showing that he wasn't just a Tom Brady replacement in New England, and that he can win games with a crappy team. Sorry Chiefs fans...

The biggest surprise in week one of the NFL season is......Derek Anderson, QB of the Arizona Cardinals. I questioned the decision to release Matt Leinart. I mean, Anderson was the QB for the Browns....need I say more? But he proved me wrong. Arizona is still the favorite to win the division, and even though Anderson won't win any award besides Comeback Player of the Year, but he, I think, will have a good season.

Week 2 starts this Sunday, who will win? I will tell you. You might want to listen to me, being I went .500 last week. Oh Yeah! Just check out my article "NFL Week 2 Predictions"
