Review: Whole Food's 365 Organic Classic Potato Chips

The Pen
I was at Whole Foods a few days ago shopping for really healthy foods when I passed the chip aisle and a craving hit me. I haven't had potato chips in months and I found it really ironic that I wanted some at the exact moment when I was supposed to be shopping for organic produce and whole grains.

But I decided to go with the craving and buy a small bag of Whole Food's 365 plain chips because... well because I really wanted them.

Taste of
Whole Foods 365 Organic Classic Potato Chips

I really wasn't paying attention to the label when I picked up these chips so I actually thought that I was buying kettle cooked chips, and when I noticed how thin these were, I was a bit bummed. But nevertheless I still ate them and I was a bit under-whelmed. The 365 chips are good because they're chips, but they aren't great.

My first thought was that the chips aren't oily enough. I don't go around smothering my food with fat, but I do feel that if a food is supposed to have a greasy taste than that food should be greasy. These were slightly dry and not as pleasurable to eat as regular chips.

And my other issue with these potato chips was that they were cut too thin. I do prefer thicker cut kettle cooked chips, but I can enjoy classic ones as well. Yet these were too thin and some of them were fried too long, so I wound up with a couple of burnt ones.

In the End...

I don't eat potato chips that often, but when I do I want the crispiest, saltiest, greasiest chips that I can find. What's the point of having a guilty pleasure if it's not very pleasurable? So I will be sticking to my favorite plain Lay's Kettle Cooked potato chips which have the same ingredients as the 365 brand, except for the fact that they aren't organic.

I probably wouldn't buy the 365 chips again unless it was the only option I had, I give them 3.5 out of 5 stars.
