This is Why You're Fat is a flash animation action/shooter gamed created by Newgrounds.com programmers domreinalabaster and Citnam. This Thanksgiving-inspired game was submitted to Newgrounds.com on November 26, 2009 and won a Daily 2nd Place award on November 27, 2009.
The two songs featured in the game are "Nom nom nom" and "You're a Turkey". Both are by jingle-song writer Parry Gripp.
Gameplay
The goal of the game is to shoot down as many turkeys as you can in 60 seconds. You are on the bottom of the screen, and it seems like you are dressed in a Pilgrim suit. It also seems like you are armed with a laser gun. The turkeys will be moving left to right and right to left all over the rest of the screen. Use your mouse to aim (you can only shoot in one direction but can move from left to right and back), then click to fire at the turkeys. The amount of time remaining is displayed at the top of the screen.
For some of the turkeys, when you shoot them, there will be mini turkeys that appear. These can also be shot. Shooting more than one turkey at a time gives you a score bonus. Therefore, if you are trying to get the high score, it would be in your best interest to time your shots so that you hit more than one turkey. Some turkeys wear Indian feathers, while others wear Pilgrim hats, to correspond with the holiday. It doesn't seem to matter which turkeys you shoot, as all turkeys seem to be worth the same amount of points. At the end of the 60 seconds, all the turkey you have killed will be fed to one person (presumably yourself) dressed in a Pilgrim suit. As he eats the turkey you have killed, he will grow outrageously in size. The number of pounds of turkey eaten will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. This becomes your score. After the person has eaten all of the turkey, you have a chance of submitting your score to a global leader board, where you can compete with other online players for the top spot or gold medal.
Review
This is Why You're Fat is crude and only faintly humorous. There is no real gameplay involved, which makes players wonder why they're playing in the first place. Then they realize they were enticed by the game's title and hooked by the main page's song, which is pretty catchy. In fact, the best thing about the game is the soundtrack, which includes two Thanksgiving parody songs by Parry Gripp. Other than that, the rest of the game has not much to offer as a game. However, if you're a fan of parodies and enjoy quick 60 second shooting games, then this is the game for you.
This is Why You're Fat scores a 5/10 for providing a small degree of gaming entertainment.
