The World Buffet is located near the U.S. Highway 95 off ramp and is near many apartment complexes and houses east and west of Lake Mead Boulevard. It's also not far from residences on and near Tenaya Way. Although the World Buffet is primarily for Las Vegas locals, its proximity to U.S. 95 could also make it a convenient dining spot for visitors heading in or out of town.
I decided I was going to try the World Buffet on a Sunday when I hadn't eaten much during the week. I entered and asked if I could briefly look at the buffet, since I hadn't eaten there before. No problem, and it looked okay, so I went back to pay.
I was told that the price was $7.99, but that didn't include a drink, which didn't make me very happy. Nevertheless, I paid the $7.99 and said I'd skip the drink. The price with the tax came to $8.61. I would later leave a $1.00 tip (customary for buffets in this town), making the total $9.61, which for me is rather pricey.
I started with the salad bar, which included fruits, vegetables, melons and other items. I started with cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapples and some other items to make a fruit salad,, and then made a small vegetable salad after that. They had some strawberries there that looked nice, except they appeared to have some sort of glaze covering on them which I despise. The vegetables included lettuce (mostly iceberg), carrots, broccoli, onions and some others. I like the cheese that was on the salad bar; however, the salad bar is rather sparse overall and not very well spread out.
After eating the salad, I went on to the main buffet and found the food to be of great quality. It included some pizza, salmon and a variety of Chinese dishes, including Kung Pao chicken, meatballs in sauce, noodles, fried rice, lemon and orange chicken, pork and some nice cooked mushrooms. One thing I observed is that they use salad-size plates even for the main buffet; I suppose to encourage people to not eat quite as much. It's a little hard to get a lot of food on there, if you're as hungry as I was that day (it's still all you can eat, though).
I'm not much of a dessert eater, so I can't tell you a whole lot about that, except I believe they have ice cream and yogurt dispensing machines and drink machines are there, in addition to the waitresses who bring drinks.
The establishment appeared to be clean overall, and this is always important to me. The people there are friendly (rather quiet and reserved) and the service is fine. There weren't a lot of customers there, however, especially for Sunday around noon time. I must reiterate that the restaurant is in a great location, and a buffet is nice to have in that area for the people who live nearby.
In my opinion, the restaurant seems to lack "pizzazz" and its atmosphere is somewhat lackluster. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as some of the locals' casino buffets and other buffets around town. It's okay, but I feel it could be improved.
