Review of New York's Vocelli Pizza

As a kid, when you heard that someone was ordering pizza, you'd think that it's going to be very delicious. No matter what, I don't remember any pizza tasting bad when I was a kid.

But in your 20's, you begin to notice that pizza--though always pretty good--some is often a lot better than others. My husband pointed this out to me. He is from New York and often found himself disliking every pizza we'd tried. I'd lived in the suburbs of New York for some time and do remember what it tasted like to go get a slice of New York City pizza; so my sympathies were always with him in this regard. It was always delicious even if you just got a slice of cheese pizza. The flavor was always good.

Well, we went through our local pizza joints and national chains, and there was nothing he would even eat more than a couple of slices of. I on the other hand could tolerate pretty much any pizza, but I could tell it was just mediocre and not the good stuff.

Well, when we moved into our current location, we got a menu for Vocelli Pizza. It is right across the street from our house so the delivery takes literally like 10 to 15 minutes after we order. It's ridiculous. I don't think that's going to be the case for all of you, but I thought it was funny enough to mention.

We first got hooked on their "chicken spinocci," pizza. It was so good and we had never had anything like it for delivery. I believe it had a white sauce instead of a tomato sauce and just a very good flavor. I wouldn't say that Vocelli Pizza tastes anything like New York pizza, but it is delicious enough in its own right to be remarked upon. We are now into our second favorite Vocelli pizza. I have to say that I think this one is much better than the "chicken spinocci."

The "meat magnifico," is just so good. It's not for vegetarians or for people that don't eat pork and beef; but, if you don't have any diet restrictions then you're set. This pizza is delicious. I mean any pizza place can pile meat on top of a pizza pie, but the Vocelli's does taste different than any one I've ever had.

I think the Vocelli secret lies in the dough. The dough is outstanding. I always find myself wanting to eat the crust; and the cheese and bread sticks there are absolutely amazing. For delivery pizza--hands down--I have found this to be the best outside of New York. Now I must warn you that the pizza is so good that you will want to eat it all and the leftovers the next day. You won't throw any away so don't think you will. It's best not to order this all the time if you want to stay in shape. Since you will eat the entire thing crust and all, don't go overboard and eat it more than once a week or you'll gain weight. But, if its fight night, or movie weekend, or a party go ahead. You won't be sorry.

After making the mistake of parking my car as any reasonable human who drives should be able to do, my car was dented and scraped by the Vocelli delivery boy driving a blue Toyota Tundra. The manager of the location would not give me the name or phone number of the employee and was quite inconsiderate. If that location is representative of the manner in which they treat their customers, they have a distinct problem in customer service and an HR department that should be more discriminating in the type of employees that they hire. The author of the above article is obviously a pawn of Vocelli's PR department who is flogging to build up the reputation of a fledgling company. My experience when dealing with the company indicates that none fo the above is true.
