Review of New Zealand TV Show Sensing Murder

Jaahda Jinnah
Sensing Murder sure is an interesting TV show and the psychic mediums used are all good at their craft; not much woolly waffling with this mob. Well if they have moments of woolly waffling it is not shown on the show.
The show has a very engaging format and is broken up into several segments.

The first segment gives some background info in the life of the deceased and the next segment investigates what the psychics can pick up about the past life and circumstances of the deceased. Next we are given some information about the circumstances of the murder and the psychic mediums are then taken to the scene of the crime where here they are quizzed about possible motives and details of the crime. During the next segment perhaps some thus far unexplored leads given by the psychic are investigated.
The aim of the show is claimed to be to uncover new information to help solve and catch the killer or killers. Whether or not it has been successful I do not know; this would require further research.
The show is interspersed with interviews given by some significant police people and retired police people who were involved with the particular case. Any 'new' information is passed along to be handled by a team of private investigators. There are also often interviews with the family of the deceased and other significant people in their lives such as friends, colleagues and partners.

From the point of view of a practicing psychic detective let me endorse the psychic mediums used; they all certainly seem to be good at their craft.
The show goes to great length to endorse them too; telling us that they interviewed a couple of hundred or so psychics and finding that only about 3 or 4 were 'up to standard'.

The psychics are expected to 'perform' for a day and are flown in by the show where they all separately spend a day on the case. They don't get to meet each other or work together.
Invariably the psychic mediums separately pick up many, many identical details. They almost invariably agree on several details such as crime scene location and details, names, occupations of suspects and many other important details.
One of the psychic mediums used regularly channels via automatic writing but as a rule most of them do not use any tools and are strictly psychic.
They are the genuine article; and made of the stuff that my mother, along with other psychics I was exposed to during my childhood were also made of. My own mother always scoffed at those she called 'the fakers' who could not read without the aid of tools. She would most likely have liked these ones used in the show and she herself had some significant notches under her belt regarding catching murderers and helping the Police.
The psychics used in the show also invariably do some psychometry; which in 'real life' for me is my chosen way of giving readings.
Psychometry refers to the ability to pick up detailed information from objects and places.
Invariably mediums can do this though there are some who mostly get information through dreams (such as Alison Duboir). If you would like the read the review I wrote about the TV show Medium right click here.

Was I interviewed for the show?
No I wasn't; nor did I put myself forward.
If I'd even known about the interviews I most likely would still not have put myself forward as I don't enjoy international travel.
Am I up to the same standard?
I would say that I am; however with one strong caveat, that being that when I 'work' such cases I like to be involved on an ongoing basis as I so often find that information comes in stages and spurts.
I've also watched other TV shows about psychic investigators (the reviews will come later sometime) and one psychic who I particularly like and admire, Nancy Myer also works the way that I like to.

This particular show does not follow through in the sense that the viewers do not get to know whether any of the crimes are solved as a result of any further information the psychics may have been able to give.

As a psychic investigator this show does tend to drive me a bit 'nutso'.
It does this because though I find the early segments of the show interesting for the information given about the case the show itself likes to parade, display and verify the skills of the psychics used whereas I myself would never bother to go through this digging stage in an investigation as I would consider much that the show aims to uncover to verify the psychics to be information completely useless to the case in hand; though it does make good coverage I guess.
I get frustrated cos I so often prefer to 'cut to the chase' and get to the important and useful information regarding the case fairly early on during the show and then have to wait to get to see if the psychics will get to pick up what I already have done so. I usually have to wait through a few advertisements and segments of the show.

I haven't seen many of the episodes though, and in a couple of cases seen I have picked up info other than what the psychics on the show have.
I found this kind of frustrating and my frustration got me around to googling the show. In the process I ended up in the shows web forums and this, in itself was an interesting experience. However I found no way to successfully pass along what I considered may be important 'psychic intelligence'.
If I were more wealthy I would buy the DVD (if anyone feels like donating this to me please email me). I would then go through the episodes and publish reviews about each one of them; which of course would include any information that the other psychics missed.
There was one particular episode that involved some indigenous people that I really felt strongly to contact to advise them of some indigenous shamanic techniques that I strongly felt would be useful to them in solving their case.

For those of you who, like I do, enjoy watching these psychic investigation type of shows I would recommend this one and would indeed be interested in your comments. Although, on reflection I must say that I do prefer the series that uses Nancy Myer.
Keep posted.
