Review of Zentra Nightclub in Chicago - Where Chicago House Meets Hindi

Sophia S. Mark
If there is one thing Zentra nightclub excels at it is a dedication to Chicago House; through all the music, decor and scene changes Zentra has continued to feature the best talent out there. Located in the industrial section of the Weed Street district, Zentra is just one of a string of nightclubs aiming to entertain the masses of Chicago.

Two floors, three rooms of music and an outdoor patio during the summer months pack in a crowd that comes to party hard. The main lounge features a long bar down the entire length of one wall and booths down the other. Couches fill a raised VIP section in the front of the room where revelers can watch everyone shaking it on the dance floor. When compared to the crowd upstairs, the dance floor downstairs has a lot of standing room.

The smaller room and bar to the right of the club entrance usually hosts small parties in an intimate setting amongst couches and strategically placed ottomans. If you need a respite from either of the packed dance floors head into here for a break. Zentra has a resident DJ that keeps the music going and often brings in new talent from Chicago and other cities.

Upstairs the Hindi decor and feel is shed as you head into a warehouse like room filled with fog and set off with an excellent lighting system, this being a new addition to the club. There is only one way to enter this dance party, with determination. The crowd leaves no time for warming up to the music, you are either in or you're out. Underground and Chicago House keep the peace, those in Chicago looking to get down and dirty come here because they know they will find the scene to their liking.

Keeping everyone good and happy is a hard working set of bartenders, a Chicago trademark. Drinks ran a little high for the Weed Street District, what I shelled out for drinks at Zentra was comparable to prices at downtown Chicago's swanky nightclubs. That said though, the drinks were strong so I didn't complain much.

Go to Zentra for the House music, and the chance to smoke hookah before the dance party starts. Avoid Zentra if you have issues with men appearing from behind dark corners to grab you from behind. Again and again, I feel like the main floor is nothing more than a giant meat market.
