Reviewing the Audiovox XMCK10 Satellite Radio Receiver

Cheap is Not Always a Dirty Word

I do a lot of traveling by car in my job, so I listen to a lot of radio. The major problem I encounter with radio is losing the station after I travel out of its range. I can listen to CDs, but after a while that gets old.

I decided to get a satellite radio receiver. I did some research and found the Audiovox XMCK10 Satellite Radio, for just around $50.00.

Setting up the Audiovox XMCK10 Satellite Radio was relatively easy. My car stereo was already equipped with an AUX jack, so all I had to do was connect to that, plug in the antenna, and use the lighter for power. I don't smoke so that was no loss.

To use XM radio you have to subscribe, but subscriptions are as low as $9.99 a month. I opted for this route, and got the Mostly Music package. The nice thing about this is that the Audiovox XMCK10 Satellite Radio gives you the music or sports or talk radio (other packages offered by XM) and you have somewhat fewer commercials.

The reception is great with the Audiovox XMCK10 Satellite Radio. When you consider the receiver is picking up signals sent to it from a satellite in orbit around the earth, this is what one would expect. After all that is why we have all those communications satellites up there!

The sound quality on the Audiovox XMCK10 Satellite Radio is great. It may not be as perfect as a CD, but if you have a digital tuner and get good reception on FM stations, that would be the comparison.

The first time I had the chance to use the Audiovox XMCK10 Satellite Radio was on a trip from Memphis to Atlanta. I had already programmed several of the stations into the unit, and plugged it into the docking port. About the dock - I have read several reviews that say it's butt ugly. Well maybe it is, but you are plugging the receiver into it for functionality. Not as an object d'art! Any docking port is going to look out of place when you don't have something plugged into it.

The Audiovox XMCK10 Satellite Radio played my stations perfectly. I could move form station to station with no problem. It was great to have music continuously while driving those long, lonely stretches of interstate.

Another great feature of the Audiovox XMCK10 Satellite Radio is the line in port. I have an iPod that I can plug in if I want to. This way, I can have radio and tunes anytime I want when I am on the road.

Long story short - The Audiovox XMCK10 Satellite Radio is well worth the price I paid, which was pretty cheap. Cheap is not always bad.
