Reviewing Bath and Body Works Shimmer Lotion

C. Phillips
Shimmer lotions are a popular way to moisturize in the winter and give your skin that added shine from the dullness of the season. I figured I'd give them a whirl when I saw a selection of them for sale at Bath and Body Works; how could you go wrong with half price? After using a shimmer lotion for a few weeks, here are my findings.

This particular shimmer lotion was from the "Temptations" collection that featured scents that are very summer-related, as they are 'fruity' and tropical. I selected the Pomegranate Martini 'flavor,' for its unique undertones of pomegranate. I've never been disappointed with a Bath and Body works scent, and this is no exception. So, I give these tropical temptation scents an A+.

I'm familiar with many of the different scents and products that Bath and Body Works carry in their stores, but I had never tried shimmer lotions mainly because of their price. They were twice as much as regular lotions for 2-4 ounces less lotion per bottle. The Pomegranate Martini shimmer lotion is $8.00 at regular price for a 6-ounce tube style bottle. The lotion dispenses in a deep tan color, unlike its pinkish regular lotion counterpart. This difference in coloring is likely because of the 'shimmer' that is added to the lotion base. If you aren't familiar with shimmer lotions versus regular lotions, these shimmer lotions are designed to leave a 'glittery' finish on your skin. This is advantageous for any of us that would like a boost from the ashy look of winter. I've also found it a great summer lotion as well, that blends nicely with a slight natural tan. The shimmer of the lotion does in fact last throughout the day without dulling. It goes on smooth and depending on the amount you use for each limb, you'll see a light glitter or a marvelous array of shimmery finish.

It is, in fact, effective as a shimmering agent. However, as a lotion it is a bit lacking. If you need extra moisturizing, this isn't the lotion for you. I'm not sure that it has any particular moisturizing qualities to speak of. It's called a 'lotion' but seems to dry out your skin more than it helps smooth it. I've come to use it as merely a fresh scent and a little glitter on my hands. Nevertheless, there is another problem with this lotion. If you put it on before you dress, the shimmer will rub off on dark clothing and make it look like you have a cakey deodorant stain. It can be taken off by rubbing the material on itself, but it will leave the glitter. If you opt to put it on after you dress, you can still get it on your clothing, because it seems to take about 5 minutes to dry so that it wouldn't leave its mark on what you are wearing. I tend to think that this lotion is best used in the summer for this reason; then you are more likely to wear light colors, shorts and t-shirts, and would not have to worry about rub off as much.

If you are planning on shimmer lotion to brighten up your winter, than just be careful not to rely on it as a moisturizer, and don't trust it on silk fabrics.
