Reviewing the CDMA 1900 Virgin Mobile Slice

Slice, newer member of the Virgin family, is striking the eye of crowds and raising itself to be second leading in the Virgin Mobile sales. Number one in sales is still the ever so popular Snapper (one of the first phones to enter the Virgin family). Slice can be bought from www.virginmobileusa.com for $49.99. This is rather nice price for a thin phone without the contract.

What's the phone like?

Slice was built to be small and portable, but it gets a little irritating to use because of its brick-like shape. It's not comfortable to hold for a long period of time, though it feels perfectly fine when held to your ear for talking (dimensions of the phone are 4.3x1.8x0.4"). Weight was a bit frightening with this phone due to the fact it only weighs 2.3 ounces total. Because of the weight factor, this phone would be quite easy to lose.

A tiny 1.5", 65,000 color screen is rather disappointing to most people. Despite the screen size, colors are vibrant and bright. Users are able to adjust the contrast and backlight timer on the Slice, but it was a sad surprise to find the brightness and font couldn't be adjusted.

Features of Slice include calculator, texting, stopwatch, alarm clock, wireless web browser that can be used to access VirginXL (providing the user an easy way to buy screensavers, wallpapers, ring tones, and to view MTV and Comedy Central), speakerphone, four polyphonic ring tones, and a world clock. The slice comes complete with three game DEMOS (Sexy Poker 2006, Midnight Pool, and Platinum Solitaire). You'll need to have access to VirginXL to purchase and download the full versions of these games or buy more games.

The CDMA 1900 Viring Mobile Slice has been tested in all US states using the Virgin Mobile network. Call quality was good (meaning it sounded clear on both ends). Sound quality with the speakerphone wasn't the best, many times people on the other line couldn't hear us, but this is a basic phone and gets the job done.

A fare warning for those who like to text a lot: The Slice's keys are flat with the phone and close together, which made it quite difficult to text. Sometimes texting is delayed due to slow response (making your words appear slowly on the screen.) The only thing I like about the keys on Slice the fact they light up an ice blue color.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a basic phone to txt and call people with, the Slice is for you. If you would like a fully blown - high tech phone, the Slice is NOT for you. You will not find things like Bluetooth or camera phone on the Slice!
