My Pearl was a double-pedal unit, and I had owned it for over a decade. I only used the double portion of it a handful of times, preferring a single pedal anyhow. For that reason, it made sense to save the money and go with a single bass pedal. I had always heard good things about DW and figured I'd give one a whirl. Boy, am I glad I did! What a pedal! I could immediately feel the high quality. Here is a rundown of the features and my thoughts on them.
Dual-thickness chain drive. An excellent feature, and one I personally appreciate because I have broken chains before at shows and had to rig up a quick fix. I honestly do not see myself busting the double chain anytime soon, as I don't have an extremely heavy bass foot. The double chain on the DW 3000 was a stroke of genius.
Infinitely adjustable. On my old pedal, I could adjust the spring tension and beater height, but that was about it. The DW 3000 series pedal allows me to adjust not only those things, but also pedal throw which has a huge affect on a drummer's play. That means you can adjust to where the beater naturally sits closer to or further from the bass drum's batter head. Also, the beater shaft has a cam which can be set to any height, so that if it ever had to be removed it would seat exactly back where it was.
Velcro strips underneath. WOW! What an easily executed and yet life-saving feature for a drummer. I cannot count how many times the smooth bottom of my other pedal slipped all over the stage, no matter if I brought my own carpet or not. The DW 3000 won't slip. I have played several live shows with it already and let me tell you, it stays put. I was thoroughly impressed with that feature.
Drum-key storage. Okay, this particular feature really, really impressed me. Drummers, how many of you have gotten to a show only to find you forgot or misplaced your drum-key? Well, with the DW 3000, no more of that! It stores right on the base of the pedal and is always there if you need to grab it in a pinch. As if the pedal weren't awesome enough, the drum-key holder really sold me on it.
Quiet, rugged construction. Even when new, some pedals have a tendency to squeak or rattle, and it is usually at the base hinge. The DW 3000 doesn't do either, and feels smooth as silk. It is very responsive and well put together. I also happen to really like its black and silver look. DW sure knows their stuff when it comes to drum pedals. In short, this author can find absolutely nothing wrong with his DW 3000 series pedal, and would recommend them to any drummer, whether you play death metal or smooth jazz. And for less than one-hundred bucks, the DW 3000 is a pedal you can't afford to pass up.
