Reviewing the Post-Hardcore Emocore Band, Chiodos, from Davison, Michigan

Mike
Chiodos is a post-hardcore, emocore band out of Davison, Michigan. This band consists of Craig Owens (vocals), Bradley Bell (keyboard), Pat McManaman (rhythm guitar), Matt Goddard (bass), Jason Hale (lead guitar), and Derrick Frost (drums). The band started playing their shows at the Flint Local and other small venues around the Flint area. Through touring and word of mouth the bands popularity started to soar. The band first signed with Search and Rescue records but is now signed with Equal Vision Record.

The band has released 5 albums thus far. The first two were self-released. They are entitled The Chiodos Bros. (EP) and The Best Way to Ruin Your Life (EP). They were released in 2001 and 2002 respectively. These albums saw limited release. The first Heartless Control Everything (EP) was released on January 25th, 2003 and was the only record released by Search and Rescue Records.

The next album was released on Equal Vision records. All's Well That End's Well was release on July 26th, 2005. This album reached #164 of the Billboard Top 200 and placed #3 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers. They later released a deluxe edition. The next album to be release is Bone Palace Ballet and should be released in the summer of 2007 or the early fall. The band's albums (along with their live show) have received a lot of positive praise from critics and press outlets.

The band has been picking up steam because of their incredible live shows. The high pitched Craig Owens brings a lot of emotion into the shows while the rest of the band members rock hard. They have toured with bands such as Yellowcard, Coheed and Cambria, Armor for Sleep, and Atreyu.

They are going to be on the Warped Tour and is currently on the Rockstar Taste of Chaos Tour. The live performances of Chiodos are widely available on YouTube and I highly recommend checking them out. They can also be seen on networks like MTV, Fuse, and MTV2.

These guys have a really unique sound. I highly recommend a listen even if you are not a huge fan of the genre.

  • They have a unique, fresh sound and will continue to get more exposure.
The band's name is a truncated version of their old name the Chiodos Bros. They got this name from the directing duo of the same name.
