Since Sprinkles Cupcakes, the Beverly Hills cupcake boutique, opened its doors in Dallas in March, I have been hearing non-stop buzz about the huge delicious factor of these famous cupcakes. The store even has a hard time keeping up with the demand. I decided I needed to get a taste, soon!
Thankfully, one of my friends volunteered to stand in an almost 30-minute line just to buy a couple of the frosted delights. She brought them to the restaurant where we had dinner, so we could taste several of the various flavors. The cupcake shop offers more than 20 flavors, including chai latte, peanut butter chip, red velvet, dark chocolate, black and white, and many more interesting and unusual flavors. Each cupcake costs about $3.25.
Well, I knew these delights are selling like hot cakes and they had already made their mark in Beverly Hills and among celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Streisand and Tyra Banks. Now, in Dallas, they are the rave, too. I couldn't really believe a cupcake could be so special. My friend had bought an assortment of flavors, including red velvet, peanut butter chocolate, vanilla, etc. I must say the peanut butter chocolate was really delicious ... well, that is I loved the icing, but thought the cake part was just OK. My taste test concluded that on the ones where the icing was a 10, the cake part of the cupcake was only like a 6 or 7. Some of my friends thought I was nuts, but hey, we all have our likes and dislikes. Anyways, some of my friends could eat pure butter and find it delicious, so there you go.
Sprinkles Cupcakes is definitely a nice must-have in Dallas and it draws large crowds. If you are in Dallas, head to Preston Center, and give Sprinkles a whirl. Your kids will love these cupcakes. Sprinkles even offers cupcakes for your four-legged friend, made from yogurt and carob, so don't forget to treat man's best friend. Sprinkles will definitely delight, but is a cupcake worth a 30-minute wait? Well, that's up to you. Many believe it is worth the wait. Now, I know everything is bigger in Texas. Sprinkles Cupcakes, I urge you to make Texas size cupcakes. If you do, I probably will stand in line and salivate.

Post a CommentWhere can you find the Magnolia Bakery book or can you just post the recipe?
Sprinkles is an overrated, overpriced and designed to appeal to those who care only about image rather than substance. I went there today and was not impressed with the misinformed employees. When I asked if they make a real buttercream, they blankly replied "yes." Their icing is merely an imitation of the kind Magnolia Bakery made famous beginning in 1996. I know because I was there. One of the employees dropped our order on the floor and the checkout girl snottily said "oh, they'll take it anyway!" My husband replied "I don't think the Health Department would take it anyway." If you really want to eat these cupcakes at a fraction of the price, simply buy Magnolia Bakery's first book and follow the easy recipes. You won't be disappointed and you won't go broke.
