Reviewing Timbaland's Album, Timbaland Presents: Shock Value

Andrew Bess
Over the years Hip Hop has been blessed to have such a great producer in the likes of Timbaland. He has been an innovative producer that can help reinvent not only hip hop artists, but even pop artists. Producing great hits is what he does. Timothy Mosley has worked with Missy Elliott, Magoo, Aaliyah, Jay Z, Ginuwine, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Petey Pablo, Pastor Troy, and Bubba Sparxxx to name a few. Tim has also stepped into the realm of pop music by producing the Pussy Cat Dolls, Nelly Furtado, and Justin Timberlake. With all the previous artists named, he has evolved their careers and given those hits we all can decipher as Timbaland's touch.

With that much influence on the music industry as a whole, how is it that he can't create a hit for himself? All of his personal albums are laced with masterful sound and chemistry but are laced with his own lyrics. There in lies the problem he was plagued with. All of his talent is placed upon his producing and beat making abilities. In blunt terms, God didn't bless Tim as a lyricist by any means. Timbaland has released a small hand full of CDs on his own but they never seem to take off like his produced products for other artists. Mr. Mosley released "Under Construction Part II" in 2003, and still can't seem to build his solo career.

Timbaland releases his latest album "Shock Value" earlier this month. Most rappers don't create a title as profound as this one. The title "Shock Value" or lack thereof describes it all. Tim packs in a huge guest list of performers and artists on his latest CD. This creates a vibe that doesn't focus so much on Tim himself. Let's just say he was on the right track. Nobody really wants to hear Timbo rap at all. Good thing Justin Timberlake, Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott, and a G-Unit feature are laced on this album. If you are looking for a hip hop album, you can't really find it here as it features the bands Fall Out Boy, The Hives, and Elton John, which leaves a different vibe on the album.

If you are looking for a well rounded CD with all genres; than you found it. There is typical Timbaland beats that always keep your head banging, but it's hard to get over the lack of Tim's lyrical presence on his own album. Check it out for yourself, the track listing is below.

To me, celebrities are about as interesting as regular ole folks. I'm not surprised if he did get arrested. Nobody is safe from the cops, not even mixtape professionals. *grumbling about overzealous cops under my breath*

Thats funny you say that, cuz Justin Timberlake said it....THat means the most catchy part of the CD to you isnt from Timbaland...lol. I heard a rumor that Tim got arrested in the past couple of days... Read up on that lol.

I completed an Amazon review of this album and basically said what you said: "Nobody really wants to hear Timbo rap at all." Every time the man opened his mouth and it wasn't to the chorus, I rolled my eyes. With beats, he's classic. With rhymes, ummm...no. However, my favorite line on the album was from Justin Timberlake when he said "I missed you on the charts last week/Oh that's right, you wasn't there" (or something of that nature). I love that line! Spiteful, but funny as hell.
