Nokia N79, one of the latest announced smartphones from the Nseries range, has been approved by the FCC recently, hence a release across the US is now possible.

Presented by the Finnish manufacturer at the same time with the Nokia N85 dual-slider, N79 brings the following features: quad-band GSM with GPRS and EDGE, dual-band HSDPA connectivity for data transfer speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps, a 2.4 inch TFT display with 16 million colors and 240 x 320 pixels, accelerometer, a touch-sensitive navi heel, internal GPS, A-GPS, Wi-Fi, HTML browser, RSS feed reader, email and Instant Messaging, Music player (MP3, WMA, M4A, AAC and eAAC+ support) Video player, stereo FM radio with RDS and FM transmitter, a 3.5mm headset jack, TV out and document viewer.

The N79 runs on Symbian 9.3 S60 3rd Edition and it also comes with a 5 Megapixel Carl Zeiss camera (auto focus, flash and video recording) - which will probably be one of its main attractions.

Users who expect the N79 to have plenty of internal memory will be disappointed, as the Nseries candybar only has 50MB of built-in storage space. Of course, the smartphone supports microSD and microSDHC cards for up to 8GB and Nokia even offers a 4GB card for free, to go with the handset.

The N79 weighs 97 grams (3.42 ounces) and measures 110 x 49 x 15 millimeters (4.33 x 1.92 x 0.59 inches). The 1200 mAh battery that the manufacturer chose to include in the new N79 is capable of providing a talk-time of up to 5.5 hours or a stand-by time of up to 372 hours.

Of course, for the moment we don't know when North American users will be able to actually buy themselves a Nokia N79. This will probably happen after the European October release of the candybar, but before the year's end. The smartphone's retail price should be somewhere around 520 USD.
