Revised; This American Refuses to Live in Fear!

Bush told us that the terrorists hate us because of our "freedoms", if that's true why has he taken away some of those "freedoms", such as; habeas corpus. Habeas corpus "is a writ which requires a person detained by the authorities be brought before a court of law so that the legality of the detention may be examined." It was the rule of law that goes back to 1215. Yet because of Bush's claim that he has to protect the American people he has taken away a suspect's right to challenge his detention in court, that applies to Americans who can be mistakenly labeled as enemy combatants as well.

Bush has also taken away our right to privacy with his wiretapping and domestic spying program. According to lawyer Ken Sanders "Under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), the government may spy on U.S. citizens, but only after getting a warrant from the secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA Court). The government doesn't even need to get the warrant before it starts spying on U.S. citizens - it can wait up to three days from the start of its surveillance to get the FISA Court's rubber stamp". Bush didn't follow the FISA courts rules and spied and wiretapped without getting warrants to do so. Which made his surveillance actives illegal. Mr. Sanders also noted that the majority of requested warrants after 911 were granted.

If we willfully give up our constitutional rights... The terrorists have won. The goal of terrorists is not only to kill people, but to instill fear in them, and make them change their way of life...by all accounts Bin Laden has succeeded in doing this. We had people running around buying duct tape, toothpaste being thrown out at airports and people sitting in front of the TV waiting to see what color the "terror alert" is for the day. I for one refuse to live in fear, I refuse to give up my constitutional rights. I want to be vigilant, but not paranoid, patriotic, but still question my government.

Folks, the choice is yours. We can choose to live in fear and continue to let this administration chip away at the Constitution in the name of ("protecting us") Or we can live up to the principles of "the land of the free and the home of the brave." Once we lose those principles the terrorist have indeed won.

The fact is I don't hate Bush, I hate his disregard for our constitution and our Bill of rights. You need to read a little more history. The Constitution allows for the suspension of habeas corpus when "Cases of Rebellion or Invasion and the public Safety may require it." Neither cases applies in Bush's suspension of it.
