As I place a stick of incense into the holder and light it with my lighter, a riff of Jasmine smoke fills my nostrils and I'm listening to Journey sing "Open Arms," so I can tell you about Ayurvda, a form of traditional medicine used in the Indian subcontinent.

Wikipedia has a rather extensive listing for the concept so I will try to assimilate, synthesize, and reveal what I have learned on the subject.

Ayurveda roughly translates into the "Science of Life" and deals with the measures of healthy living and therapeutic measures that relate to physical, mental, social, and spiritual harmony. Like I'm playing a guitar really hard right now. The incense fills my consciousness so I can tell you that the mainstream medical community does not recognize this concept as viable and has produced almost no support for the claims of Ayurvedic practitioners.

What do Journey, Reba McIntire, and Ayurveda have in common? "There's a lot you have to undo once you've learned to be lonely." You can revitalize your mind and you can accomplish anything you want Improve your memory, your social quotient, and your spiritual life. All these things happen to people who find ways to stimulate their minds.

To call something a "Science of Life" is about as broad as you can get. But to focus on the brain and its capabilities is a daunting challenge and is about as ambitious as you can get. We probably know about as much about our inner selves as we do outer space. The pattern is visible, but, man, these flowers in my head have got to go. That's sort of like what you feel like when you take Brain Tonic and listen to Reba McIntire.

Of course, I've never held Reba McIntire tight, so I'm wondering if BRAIN TONIC would help me succeed in that regard. I don't think the makers of BRAIN TONIC make any such claims. Now I'm listening to Rapture. They've been compared to the Velvet Underground, but I compare them to the Grim Reaper. They're pretty good. I like'em. Maybe they drank a slug of Brain Tonic. (I'm playing the computer keyboard as if it were a piano.)

There is no real consensus on where Ayurveda originated. The story goes that the legendary Ayurvedic practitioner Yagbhata lived during the time of the epic Mahabharata and was the chief physician of king Yudhisthir, according to Wikiprdia.

So let's take off to the moon and find out just what Ayurveda is exactly, Ayurveda teaches two main principles. The first principal concerns itself with the preservation of health, how to maintain good health, and what to do to keep the human body healthy and fit in order to avoid sickness.

The second principal reveals methods, medicines, and tactics for the management of diseases and ailments to cure and procure a return to normal health.

Ingredients in Ayurveda consist of materials of vegetable, animal, and mineral origin and are believed to have some medicinal value. They are considered to be time tested remedies used in Ayurvedic medicines to heal disease and insure good health.

BRAIN TONIC contains a wholesome and tasty regimen of standardized extracts of Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Shank Puspi (evolves alsonoides), and Climbing staff tree (celastrus paniculatus).

The whole business of Ayurvedic remedies seems tenuous at best, but let's give it the benefit of the doubt.

Some Ayurvedic practitioners have been appointed to Honorary Ayurvedic Physician to the President of India. Each year on Dhabvabtari jayanti, a prestigious Dhanvantari Award is conferred on a famous personality of medical sciences including Ayurveda., according to Wikipedia.

WARNING: An article published by the Journal of American Medical Association found that 20% of Ayurvedic medicines contained dangerous traces of heavy metals such as lead, mercury and arsenic

But that's not all the Ayurvedic pharmacologists put into their products. "Ayurvedic medicine is often 'cut' with conventional pharmaceuticals, without this fact being advertised on the label," says Wikipedia.. Dr. S.K. Gupta found that 38 per cent of Ayurvedic medicines prescribed for asthma and arthritis had been adulterated with steroids.

However, Tara Dutt Joint secretary, AYUSH, offers the following comment: "Heavy metals are integral to some formulations and have been used for centuries. There is no point of doing trials as they have been used safely and have mention in our ancient texts."

Don't you want to sing a song after a statement like that. "Knowing me, knowing you, there is nothing we can do. . . ." ABBA
