Revitalize Your Kitchen and Install Glass Kitchen Cabinet Doors
Create a Brighter, Cleaner Environment in Your Kitchen
The tools you will require to make your new glass kitchen cabinet door are: a drill, a jigsaw, measuring tape, grease pencil, masking tape and a light hammer. The materials needed are: glass panels, small nails, wood glue, caulking, paint and corner rounds. Now you have everything you need, and its time to make your new glass kitchen cabinet door.
The first step is to cut your glass to size. When measuring the space that your glass kitchen cabinets door are going to fit onto, remember to cut the glass at least 1 inch smaller all the way around. This is to allow for the frame. If you are competent at glass cutting, you can easily do this yourself. If you aren't, a glazier will cut the glass to your specifications.
Take the old door off and remove the hinges. On the back of the door, use a measuring tape to determine where you will be putting the glass panel. Mark these lines with a grease pencil. Alternatively, you can use masking tape. Check that the measurements are correct by placing the glass panel into the space that you've marked. It should be perfectly aligned all the way around.
Just inside each corner, drill a large hole. Insert your jigsaw in one of the holes and cut along from one corner to the other. Do this all around and the panel will pop out. Once you've done this, turn the door over and attach a molding. This will frame the glass panel. You can paint or stain the molding before you re-attach your new glass kitchen cabinet door.
Use a miter saw to cut the moldings to angles of 45 degrees. To make sure you have your moldings at the right length, measure the size of the outside edge where you will be putting it. There must be enough inside to overlap the glass panel and hold it in place. Using wood glue, attach the molding to the frame of your glass kitchen cabinet door. Caulk the joins when the glue is dry, and then stain or paint it to your requirements.
When everything's dry, you can fit the panel of glass. The corner rounds to hold the panel in place must be fitted on the inside of the glass kitchen cabinet door. These should be cut to a 45 degree angle, the identical as the molding. Very carefully secure them to the frame of the glass cabinet kitchen door with the hammer and small nails. Protect the glass with cardboard while you are doing this. The joins of each corner round must be caulked before they are painted. As soon as this paint has dried, replace the hinges and re-attach the glass kitchen cabinet door.
Your new glass kitchen cabinet door is now in place. Repeat these steps with every cabinet and it will look as if you've had a brand new kitchen installed. Now enjoy the brighter, cleaner environment that you've created, simply by installing glass kitchen cabinet doors.
