Revive Chivalry!

A Look at the Death of Chivalry, and What it Will Take to Get it Revive!

Chivalrous, valiant, heroic. Are those words you would use to describe and define today's men? Probably not, unless you're lucky enough to know the three percent that might fit in that category. Where did chivalry go? No, where did just plain good manners go? I'm tired of men and women alike in this world acting rudely, knowingly and unknowingly. Ignorance is not an excuse. Let's examine this issue in depth.

Chivalry once meant everything from swearing allegiance to church and king, as well as defending ladies and the weak. Now a days you're lucky if the guy in front of you at Starbucks manages to hold the door open, a sour expression on his face. What happened?! Who killed chivalry? Women's lib? The me me me now now now generation of today?

Well some might say that opening doors and pulling out chairs for women suggests they're meek and incapable. Not true! Chivalry done correctly shows respect and deference. I am in fact capable of pulling open my own doors, but when its pouring rain and I've got fifteen packages to juggle a gentlemen in front of me who smiles politely and says "after you," has my eternal blessing! Now I don't think that my femininity has diminished in any way shape or form because of this.

Some say that todays fast paced world has made chivalry impractical. Why wait for a gentleman to open my door, when its faster and easier to do it myself? Men think, why should I rise when she rises? That's so stiff and unnatural, what a waste of time! In the day of drive through ATM'S, and fast food, everyone wants what they want and they want it now.

How to bring chivalry back? Through our children! Children truly are the future, in so many ways. Teach your sons that women are gorgeous divine creatures worthy of his utmost respect. Start with his mothers and sisters. He should always say "yes ma'am," and "no ma'am." He should open her doors, and remember ladies first! Hold her chair for her, and take her hand to help her when she needs it. You'll have far less abused women in the country, I'm sure. But only if you also teach your daughters! Many are taken aback and do not know how to act when a man goes to open her car door. She thinks in her head, "I could have done that, how silly!" But let him! Teach your daughters that they are worthy of praise and respect. Now, we're not trying to make them prissy. Just help them understand that they're equals in this world, not superiors.

When your children have an understanding of how they should be treated by the opposite sex, the world will begin to turn alot smoother. The world will once again be a place of manners, respect, heroic deeds, valiant efforts, and chivalrous (but no push over!) gentlemen all helping their fair (but still competent and independent) ladies!
